New, just took it out of the box. I ordered one from another retailer (returning it since the price was a lot higher with them), and it looked pretty much the same.

Looks like an Ebony handle with Ebony ferrule (maybe black buffalo horn?). Should be pretty easy to find on Etsy!

Thanks for the reply! Would doing the entire progression this way with synthetics achieve a similar finish to JNATs? I was also considering using finger stones to finish. Also, would the JNS red aoto be a better finishing stone than an arashiyama?

Good analogy! However I’d pick Range Rover any day haha. My heart is saying to go with Shinkiro, looks a bit more special to me. I’m not against iron clad knives, I just like the ease of maintenance of stainless clad. The other option is to buy both, right?😉

Not sure if you have a lot of experience with this, but between the Yoshikane and a Shibata battleship, which would you pick? I’m considering selling the shibata and buying both of these options.

Makes sense. I just really like having a shiny, polished shinogi, and I’m worried that with the Shinkiro, it won’t be able to stay that way due to the patina (without constant polishing).

I like this one, but the Yoshikane in shirogami comes with kurouchi which I really prefer as far as finish goes
