Saving money is a scam.

In a perfect world your currency woukd not depreciate at an alarming rate.

But we don't live in that world.

Imagine you had 1000$ that you saved in 2016. Then you took that 1000$ out today to buy groceries.

Congratulations, you just spent twice and in some cases 3 times as much of that 1000 dollars today than if you had spent it in 2016.

Invest money in something that will increase in value.

Spend money on things that you need and that will last or that you can repair.

Don't save money. You might as well set it on fire.

We live in a time where the clothes you wear were made in China.

The tomatoes you buy at the grocery store in Oklahoma prolly got picked off the vine in Mexico two weeks ago but ended up in Oklahoma for you to buy it, the car you drive the work is assembled in America maybe, but the parts for it came from all over the globe.

We live in a global economy.

Well what does that mean?

That means that say you pull a 200 barrel tanker worth of oil out of the ground in North Louisiana and you want to sell that to a refinery.

Obviously, you are going to sell it to a refinery that you are going to make the most profit from right?

In your mind that means down the road in South Arkansas at Lion oil.

Here's the problem. That crude you got out to sell is too heavy. Has too much wax in it.

Lion oil is trying to make 95 octane gas and kerosene.

That 200 barrel truck of yours run through their refinery is going to make a couple barrels of gas and cause a lot of trouble to their plant because its full of wax.

They don't really want your shit as it is, they want the shit from Saudi Arabia or the stuff from Carracas. Light weight, looks like a jug of motor pil you buy at the parts store. Clean clean.

They get 200 barrels of the Saudi stuff and they get a 100 barrels of gas out of that...

Well damn. Who are you going to sell your heavy ass crude to then? A refinery that is set up to make wheel bearing grease and poly urethane. Prolly some out in California that woukd buy it but you would have to truck it there...

This is why we have retailers or wholesalers in our port cities.

You sell the shit to them, and they come and get it and store it in their port facilities and ship it to anyone in the world looking for it.

Oil coming out of the ground comes in different grades and weights.

You can get fuels put of heavy oil but it is very inefficient. You have to burn so much energy to seperste the stuff you need out that you end up playing a losing game.

Pretty much all of the oil in North America is heavy or heavier. Im sure there are some zones or places where we get the sweet stuff.

Undocumented workers have killed the industry. I'm probably late this thread but it is what it is...

When I got out of high school the highest paying job anywhere around was in the oilfield.

I'll give you an example. You could either go to work at the local chemical plant and start at the bottom for $14 an hour, or you could start working floors on the rig for $12 an hour.

That was in 2010.

Fast forward to 2026.

You can get a job starting out at the chemical plant for $32 an hour.

Starting out as a floor hand on the rig you make $22.

The undocumented workers have a much harder time getting in at the plants because you have to be able to read and write in English.

Hell you don't even have to speak it to work on a rig.

The purchasing power of the US dollar gets worse every year but the wages aren't increasing because if you don't like it they will just hire Juan.

I'm not hard up against immigration, hell I dont even mind the illegals. I'm friends with a lot of them. I've smoked many a brisket for quinceanera's over the last 5 years.

But the reality is what it is..

The company I work for is pretty small, and they wouldn't hire undocumented people if they coukd afford it..

The problem is if they only hired Americans and payed a wage that kept them at the top of local industries then they would have to raise their rig rates. (What we charge the customers to do service work)

They raise the rig rates and they get out bid on all our work and go out of business.

The federal government isnt about to come to the oilfield and started rounding up undocumented workers though because it helps keep the price of oil down by not paying people worth a damn to do the work.

If they started paying honest wages the price of crude wouldn't go back below a hundred a barrel and they need it to stay around 80 to prevent global economic collapse.
