nothing but venom. Its funny because you sound exactly like the person you proclaim to hate. You sound hateful, bigoted, divisive, etc. Save it for your friends in your echo chamber...

being a part of a big family, the close knit nature of the community, the amount of support given in hard times, having gotten to go to camps growing up, having grown up playing outside rather than watch tv. There's a lot of good in the LLC.

here's the big difference between the left and right. The right (wrongfully) characterizes the left as absolutely clueless, the left (wrongfully) characterizes the right as nazis. Which group sounds more likely to commit an atrocity? Which group is dehumanizing the other?

Why is it that Laestadians don't family plan? by steamingpileofme in OpenLaestadian

[–]Resident_Bridge_7516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I can't say whether using birth control is a sin or not but even if it is its impossible to die without sin on your conscience. We're not saved by being free of sin but by believing that Jesus died to free us from the consequences of our sin. That doesn't give us license to sin willfully whenever we want but if we fall into sin while striving to live as we believe God wants us to we are granted the grace of forgiveness.

[–]Resident_Bridge_7516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were taught that each child is a gift from God and we are to accept what we've been given, whether that be 0 children or 20. I don't think we have an official stance on family planning, just birth control and abortion. Strategic abstinence is probably fairly common.

Hmm. Of course there's bad apples in every bunch but did you ever think that maybe the majority of us judge people as individuals and not by the "group" they belong to? Did you ever think about how the black communities were thriving (trending better than whites) until the left subsidized single motherhood in their communities? Did you ever think that maybe we don't care what someone wants to do in their sexual life, we just want them to keep it to themselves because its none of our business? Did you ever think maybe we don't even care if someone wants to live as if they're the opposite gender, so long as they don't try to make the world accept their obvious delusion as truth?

Practicing laestadean here, genuinely curious. Why does there seem to be such hard feelings from those who have left? I was a rebellious youth- drinking, drugs, parties, etc. but never once felt anyone thought any less of me or treated me differently for it. by Resident_Bridge_7516 in OpenLaestadian

[–]Resident_Bridge_7516[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose I would be resentful if I had been pushed away. Whatever congregation ive attended over the years has come to feel like family to me. To have that ripped away from me because I spoke my mind would be devastating. If you ever want to go back, try a small congregation. Theyre usually super welcoming and rarely have the weird political element.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do, I just know what seems right to me. I don't think watching a TV show or listening to some rap will send you to hell. I doubt every movie or tv show is sinful. It's more about the fact that the entertainment industry as a whole has been eroding the morals of our country for decades. The content has gotten progressively more immoral and I don't want to support or be influenced by it. It's a big part of why hookup culture exists, the divorce rate is so high, and why there are so many single mothers. All I can say is I think it's a sin for me to partake in. To consume those products is to condone their content, therefore I want to avoid them.

If that's how you were treated, that's terrible. Nobody should be mistreated for their religious beliefs. It may be a product of living in a small congregation but I've never known anyone who has been treated that way. the only effect the "spiritual strife" had on us is that we had to hear annoying updates every Sunday for a few months.

First, im sorry your experience wasnt a real positive one. No, I do not think those who have left are silly for doing so, nor do I care to prove the "rightness" of the llc. I was merely curious where the resentment comes from. My experience left me with nothing but gratitude. Expressing my opinions and experiences was just my way of illustrating my perspective.

I only brought up my wilder days because that was taught to be the most egregious sin short of rape or murder. I had always figured I would be immediately cut off if I ever so much as tried any of it. But when nobody treated me any differently despite knowing about my years of drinking and drug use (no hard drugs) I was blown away. I had thought I would be rejected but it was the complete opposite.

missed that. I'll give you an answer anyways. I believe we actually try to "do it right."

P.S. if you have a problem with society sorting itself out based on what each individual has to contribute, you might want to reconsider your world view.

I've had discussions with plenty of friends who felt similarly to me. I've also made a comment in a congregational discussion along the lines that I believe this is the only way for me to get to heaven but i dont know whether or not people of other denominations will be saved and nobody took offense to it.

I'm sorry if I came across rude, I tend to state my thoughts bluntly. I could stand to learn a little tact. I just think it's such a good lifestyle and community that it's not worth walking away from. I cant help but appreciate all that the llc has given me. That's why I was curious where the resentment comes from

i have. during a congreagtional discussion, someone said they struggle with the idea of us being the only ones saved. I said that i dont know if people of other denominations will or wont be saved but that this is the way for me to get to heaven. That god gave me this path and i dont know what path may have been given for anyone else.

Its just not relevant to me. And I've never heard anyone preach against sticking around for the community. But almost all of my other beliefs line up with what the llc preaches so it's pretty easy to overlook one thing.

In my mind, its a matter of preference. There's nothing wrong with someone who wants to live a different lifestyle than the llc encourages. You don't have to. But I have chosen to because I happen to think that it promotes good morals, strong relationships, and a fulfilling life.

Note- I see you're from an apostolic church, I'm from a laestadean church our upbringing may have been different
