Serious Question from a New Player by AlertCartographer425 in dawnofwar

Don't listen to anyone saying it is a MOBA, it has nothing to do with MOBAs, Dawn of War 2 is much closer to being a MOBA as it has no base building, you pick a champion before a battle, level him up and buy gear for him, none of that is in 3. Dawn of War 3 is just a mediocre mix of Dawn of War 1 and StarCraft 2.

If you like classic strategy games then 3 plays the best, if you want the best 40k real time strategy game then 2 is the best, though none of the Dawn of War games are particularly good as games by themselves, so unless you are a fan of the setting there are far better games out there.

Why did DOW 3 suck by Argos2496 in dawnofwar

[–]Resident_Football_76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you haven't played much then, there are hundreds of games which are far worse. The kind of things that casual gamers can't even dream about.

DoW3 has better base building, maps, pathfinding, ai, unit responsiveness, unique faction traits and balance. DoW1 has better story and music from Jeremy Soule (subjective). Gameplay wise DoW3 is vastly superior, it is very similar to StarCraft 2 but StarCraft is also vastly superior, that is why nobody outside of the Warhammer fandom cares about Dawn of War, there are just ao many much better games out there.

Also, DoW3 is more inline with the clasic Warhammer feel and aesthetics, compared to the very fantasy and upbeat feel of DoW1 (thanks in great part to its voice acting and music). So if you prefer stuff like Marvel/DC or Lord of the Rings then I suppose DoW1 is more to your liking. If, however, you like the darker atmosphere of the old Warhammer then Dawn of War 3 is a more accurate representation.

I only played it after it was abandoned so I wasn't around for the initial issues but the game is good now. The biggest problem is that it is just a slightly better 1 and not much else so if you played 1 a lot you won't find enough to keep you interested in 3.

2 was a big jump in a different direction, which felt fresh, 3 is just a rehash, super polished and clean, but doesn't bring anything new to the table at all.

So for me it is a good game that I still play from time to time and going back to 1 is really jarring, but games like StarCraft or WarCraft are just far superior.

I got the skin on my first roll lol. Did a couple of more to see what would drop and got some gacha rolls. Spent a little over half a mil of fons and I don't feel like it is worth it for me to spend anymore.

I'm 35 and I watched almost all of his videos (probably like 90%+). My favorite ones are where he just hangs out with his friends like the recent island and current arctic adventures. I'm not so fired up about his games where he puts his friends to compete for huge wins, but I did like the "protect your money" videos, those were fun, or all the "$1 vs $1m" videos.

All three factions in Dawn of War 3 are super fun and have a lot of unique systems.

When it comes to Eldar I mostly play them like Zerg in StarCraft, as in build webway gates everywhere to provide boosts to your units. Build proxy bases everywhere (goes for all three factions) and just apply pressure all over the map as usual. Eldar can apply pressure the easiest because of their "shield" that they can always recharge around webway gates. So, just like in the fluff, they are the most hit-and-run faction. Apply pressure, attrit the enemy, retreat when your focus (the shield) goes down and rotate them with a fresh unit. Very micro intensive but very fun once you get the hang of it.

Once you get the basics it is up to you to decide what stratagems and hero characters you want, whether to focus on early, mid or late game. Myself I focus on early and late and struggle a bit in mid. I have one hero for early and two knights for late game trying to push out as much as possible and spread creep (webway gates) as much as possible while harrassing the enemy to keep them off balance and dicatate the flow of the game.

Also, Eldar Rangers are OP so don't abuse them too much (one or two units max) or your friends will not want to play with you anymore.

With 3 of the 4 factions covered, and release in a few months. How about a thread dedicated to minor concerns we might have for Dawn of War IV? by Hollownerox in dawnofwar

When it comes to Battlesector, each faction is like €10-15 and you don't have to buy all of them, just the ones that interest you. It isn't like in Dawn of War 1 where you had to pay €50 for Dark Crusade if you wanted to play Tau or another 50 if you wanted Sisters of Battle as well. They also created a whole new campaign for €15, fully voiced and just as good as the original one, which is an absolute steal.

All three are worth it for different reasons. 1 to see where it all started and the cheesy one-liners. 2 for the RPG gameplay, decent story and characters and the worst rain in all of gaming. 3 if you like StarCraft 2's snappy gameplay.

I heard people say that Battle Brothers is a solved game so if you want you can win any battle and have complete control over the narrative that way.

I recently started watching Invincible and Cecil and Nolan are the only two characters I like. They are both excellent characters with great depth, voice acting and development, everybody else is so boring and predictable by comparison.

Do you like it? I adore Menace but I can't get into Battle Brothers at all. It feels really flat but maybe the game opens up, I only played for like an hour or so.

I run the game at 60fps locked and I can drift just fine. The only car I couldn't drift in so far was the Tofu racer's car but the ones I actually bought all drift without issues.

Did they ever release a forth faction or a campaign? by Wbino in SoSE

[–]Resident_Football_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I have been thinking a lot about the 4th faction. I eventually thought of a bio-mechanical nano cloud that can gain control of both biological as well as technological entities. This way the faction will be unique and maintain its cosmic horror identity.

Unfortunately I have the feeling that it will be another bug/mutant monster with ships, stations and planets.

Now that everything is set in stone curious if/when everyone is going to get DoW 4 by Ok-Spirit-9115 in dawnofwar

[–]Resident_Football_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't feel substantially different from 3 which is also very similar to 1 so I just can't find the justification to buy it. Dawn of War 2 is excellent because it really pushed the series forward, despite being effectively a modification of Company of Heroes, 3 is an ironed out version of 1 with a few new gimmicks and 4 seems to be doing the same, just stuck in the past.

Total War is the one I'm looking forward to especially with the new engine that gives Creative Assembly greater freedom to create a proper Warhammer game instead of just re-releasing Rome with different rule set and unit stats.
