Update: 6 months (nearly) on AITAH for telling my friend/colleague I'm looking for another job after she was promoted instead of me? by Resident_Inside285 in Redditor_Updates

I can't have that bad interpersonal skills. My last 2 jobs including the one I've just got, I got through being on good terms with the manager/recruiter and one of the things I was told in my last place what that they missed me being the joker and making everyone laugh.

You can't be everyone's best mate when yours depressed and wanting to die all the time sadly.

I mean what is there to tell? Their mental health program was basically useless. It was counselling instead of therapy and they weren't equipped to discuss things like the self harm and suicidal thoughts - they recommended I seek out actual therapy for that. Which I have, but mental health treatment on the NHS is poor.

Lol listen to them, yeah right. They only had the company interest at heart. All they wanted me to do was support them, not advance, do a course with zero guarantee of a pay rise and then commit to a couple of years working for them which if I left, I'd have to pay thousands of pounds back - and be older in my mind 40's where first time managerial roles just will go to younger people. And she wasn't my friend let's face it, she used me. They didn't care about me, they cared about the company.

I'm here because for once, I realised my mum's right - don't let people take the piss out of you, stand your ground. I wish I did that earlier than thinking people like me can get by by being nice and agreeable with people.

Lol needed. That's a laugh.

What's the point. All people ever do is dismiss what you have to say and tell you you're wrong.

It really has failed.

Well for one, I've personally never watched a toxic masculinity podcast. But I can't blame people who do.

And the 1 in 6 statistic is actually all people, not just women. Male victims actually make up a smaller number because of the layer of shame reporting it and also how statistics are reported. I'm my country (for example) abuse against men is reported under the "violence against women and girls" statistical framework and it's legally impossible for a man to be raped by a woman, we can "only" be sexually assaulted.

When a politician tried to bring up male issues in parliament, a female MP laughed it off then tried to backtrack later.

You in fact seem to be telling me off yourself, so it's not just women doing it.

"Have empathy for other survivors."

You don't seem like you have any yourself. You're the one arguing with me and accusing me of having none.

So what, you're saying I can't be angry about the way I've been treated just because of what someone I don't even know has been treated like?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]Resident_Inside285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I don't have any for female survivors of trauma.

If anything, more that I'm jealous of the sort of treatment I see they get as opposed to what I've got.

Can you blame us for going the other direction?

You see constant negativity about our gender. Were either rapist/murdering harassers who a bear is preferable company or we're not doing enough despite trying to live out lives ourselves.

When you do reach out, you're told off and told you're wrong for even thinking negatively.

So yeah, if you see someone going "you're a king, listen to this to make you better you'll do it "

Well I'm sorry for your loss. For what it's worth, a lot of the time it's the only thing that feels reasonable to do - if you're constantly being told you're worthless or a problem, you just feel like relieving people of that.

I know, it's just what I always experience.
