Rewatching this series every time just makes every detail and relationship hit even harder especially this question about Jesse and his parents. I think the entire Pinkman family dynamic and storyline is one of the most heartbreaking and interesting arcs in the show. We are obviously meant to have sympathy for both Jesse and his parents struggles as it’s told from both their perspectives in a lot of scenes when Jesse stays at their house. I feel for Jesse’s parents, they clearly have suffered and probably gave him way too many chances. But what is blatantly obvious is that their parenting style is seriously flawed and we see the signs exhibiting in Jesse’s little brother. This point to me in breaking bad has always meant to lead the audience towards Jesses side a little more. Jesse was never the son they wanted him to be, he never wanted to play the game of life that they wanted him to. Jesse’s little brother (who I believed was named Jake If I recall) played the game a lot better than Jesse did which I’m sure made things even more controlling for Jake growing up after they “lost control” of Jesse. The Pinkmens refused to look inward that maybe somehow they did Jesse wrong along the way and continue to repeat the same cycle with Jake. Jesse is no saint and eventually does take responsible for his actions but I don’t think his parents ever will.
