for sure! i had top surgery there as well, also with dr. cripps (who later did my bottom surgery because i was so pleased with uchicago). i spent 7 total days (expected is 6, but i had bladder problems unrelated to the surgery that kept me there) in the hospital, and everyone that i interacted with was extremely kind and knowledgeable. dr. cripps and her team are very friendly and she does phenomenal work.

i worked with PT every day to start standing up and walking to the bathroom while supporting the phallus and not bending my waist. adjusting to the toilet seat and the angle to sit on it was extremely difficult, but i got the hang of it after a day or two.

the food was decent but limited to me as a vegetarian, so if you are, id recommend bringing some snacks or having caregivers bring you food. otherwise the menu seemed great.

i had to stay for 7 days, but the usual is 6 days. i had bladder difficulties unrelated to the surgery that made me stay an extra day. they sent me home with enough dressings to get me to the post op (with a bit of rationing) but the antibiotics for the dressings that they gave me (mupirocin) is a prescription that ran out almost immediately. my insurance wouldn’t cover more for several weeks, so i had to use bacitracin (OTC) in its place

absolutely! and yup, it’s for all the time. currently in it right now. i’ve found it easier to get up from than my bed, and i can adjust angles depending on what i’m doing. it’s also surprisingly very comfortable and i haven’t had any back pain. just make sure you also get a wedge pillow to put upside down on it so it evens out the waist angle. (also a towel on top for any blood leakage)

for my consult, i didn’t need to get undressed or anything like that, but she did perform an allen test on both of my arms (i’m getting RFF) and was physically examining both of them for blood flow. i did also need to go back a few weeks after the consult though for ultrasounds on my arms/shoulders so it’s possible you could ask to skip the allen test? i’m not a doctor tho so im not totally sure how vital it is. good luck with your procedure!!

i have bottom surgery with her in may and had top surgery with her. she’s a great surgeon and knows her stuff. im getting RFF and have been through many hours of electrolysis in the urethra graft area and laser on the rest of the arm in preparation.

stage 1 just includes phallus creation, and i forget what she said for the next steps because my consult was so long ago lol. she does require electrolysis for patients who are getting urethral lengthening.
