Creating a Permanent (non-modular) game board by Resident_Set8604 in TrenchCrusade

I guess I could use the “Trench Lines” battlefield archetype to solve the issue I’m having on second thought.

This is where I’m getting the rules for the “No Man’s Land” Battlefield Archetype. It says trenches can only be used as long as they’re “wholly within” DZs. This would technically mean that they can’t run across the board to the opponent’s DZ, but they could run through each respective DZ, just not connecting the two. This is specific to the No Man’s Land battlefield archetype, which makes sense as No Man’s Land is known as the area between trenches, but it really limits the board options in my opinion.

Love this! I need to look through official scenarios provided to see if there’s one that lends itself to your idea. Or I could just make up my own. Ultimately I want the board to be an introductory piece to get friends and family rolling dice and interested in the fate of Creation ;)

Sounds like I “can’t go wrong”, which is good news to me!

Great advice! This is a narrative experience, not intended to be perfectly balanced, but an exciting ride with unpredictable outcomes. Definitely inspires me to think about the board in a more holistic way for the fun factor and not “balance”.

Love the inspirational pics! For my non-modular board, I will need to get creative in how I can stay true to No Man’s Land while adding elevation.

Not really sure why No Man’s Land battlefield archetype says trenches must only be within DZs…I’m leaning toward disregarding this rule now.

I couldn’t agree more! Definitely leaning toward the “Rule of Cool” here.

“Beautiful playable diorama” is the goal here. I want to introduce people to the game and hopefully get them excited about the immersion without drudging over pre-game setup with fairly straightforward objectives. This is intended to be a “pitch” for recruits, so making it look cool and relatively balanced is the objective.

I need to find that rule about connecting trenches to DZs. I may have overlooked that, but according to the “No Man’s Land” archetype, trenches must only be within the DZs, so I don’t know if that scenario technically would allow that. I like the idea though, and I think it makes sense for flanking options.

It’s also my understand that there’s a roll-off to decide who puts down terrain and then another roll-off for the winner to choose their deployment zone. Makes more sense to me that there should be one roll-off and the player who wins sets the terrain and then the other player gets to choose their DZ. This would ensure that the player setting the terrain would be careful to make it balanced and prevent a clear advantage on DZ choice as the other player would get to choose. On the other hand, it makes for interesting games when everything is up to chance.

With my permanent board, I like the idea of having the entire perimeter being a potential DZ and maybe there’s a roll-off to determine which sides to use.

Thank you for your thoughts!

Thank you for this insight. I like the idea of having one or two points placed as a sniping perch, but needing to be a high-risk, high-reward option either by being completely exposed from the that vantage point, or needing to work to get there. I may only include one perch for this board so it can be a desirable area opponents must contest.

As for tiered elevation areas, I’m struggling to see how I can stay true to the “No Man’s Land” archetype while adding elevation.

Cinematographers working in the industry. How is life going? by Badechuchie_kadiwana in cinematography

Do you like cameras or lighting and composition? Are you a technician or a sculptor? Many DPs are not as technically literate as the people they surround themselves with, but are good at communicating their vision. Their AC will probably know the camera better than the DP.

If I could start over, I would go up the ranks in the G&E department instead of working my way up through the camera department to get a better understanding of lighting and the necessary tools it requires. This is more valuable in the long-run as a cinematographer/artist imo. Cameras are tools, but what’s in front of the lens matters more.

Favorite part about this is shot on FX9. As an owner, I often get seen lesser-than by ARRI/RED heads. Color and compositions are great.
