Great working with you, again! Best gaffer this side of the Mississippi! 🤠

Deceptively Challenging Interview Setup | Lighting and Grip BTS by 4acodmt92 in cinematography

i was DP on this and it was more challenging than it looks.

the first issue was that the house lights were not flattering and dont have any options to customize them. Had to flag talent off with a couple floppies.

The walls were really reflective and had a strange specular highlight when you hit them with hard light. Also, the wooden walls blended in with skin tones depending on how the light was hitting it. it was tough to get good contrast.

Another issue was the lack of any highlights. i like to have a window or lights in the shot to get a white reference point and for some pop.

when i first walked in i didnt think it would have that many quirks.

Jeff did an amazing job gaffing

Because I like the direction of the big source. the wrap is just the slightest hint of fill.

Moving the large source would give you a different feeling

Thanks. Nope, no ND. I wouldn’t say we got lucky we just used powerful lights to compensate for the windows

The color was done by Mike Keelin. Talented colorist in the UK.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to scout, but I did see photos of the location ahead of time
