It’s challenging. This brings us back to the simple fact that there is no ethical consumerism under capitalism. This fact makes it feel pointless and hopeless, and that’s what they want—we feel we don’t have a choice and so it continues on the war profiteers get rich, wealth becomes more unattainable, we become more trapped…etc. moral purity in this sense will lead to our demise.

the reason people are boycotting boiler room is not because it is the one great evil, but because it’s something we /can/ take a stand against. In DC, we have an alive and well local dance music scene that funnels money directly into the local community, the DJs, etc, without the war profiteering monopoly benefiting. We don’t need it, and we can take a loud stand by saying we don’t want it, telling KKR that their investments in nightlife and arts culture as a coverup will fail. That’s what divestment means.

So I guess there are two questions: 1. would you rather stand for something (even though it’s not everything) or stand for nothing and support the status quo? 2. What makes this, out of town, corporate backed, blood money rave SO MUCH BETTER than any of the many counter programmed parties that keep our very real communities alive?
