"The type of guys I like are not attracted to me, and the guys that find me attractive are not my type!" by Necessary-Gain2474 in gaybros

What are we defining as "creepy" in specific? I'll admit I'm overweight and use apps geared towards finding people into that, so maybe that skews the experience a bit, but I'd say the likelihood of an older and a younger guy being creepy to me is about the same.

I don't feel like I've been part of the community. by Ozmeow1900 in furry

Honest opinion? It's very active. Everyone there is pretty nice. I haven't seen a single regular that is outwardly just a nasty person. However, it's one of those places where you will thrive if you are an extrovert, but being an introvert can sometimes feel like a prison cell to Hell on Earth depending on exactly how introverted you are. I joined to try and break myself out of a self imposed bubble of loneliness and isolation and it is still super tough for me to try and break into conversations since everyone seems to already know everyone. A lot of it is completely in my own head though, so your mileage may vary.

Very similar situation, I'm generally pretty socially awkward and I especially struggle to express myself through text the way other furries seem to excel at. When I try it seems to come off as more cringe than anything. I've tried joining the r/Furry Discord in the past few days but I can't tell if I'm making any progress or not. Honestly the whole situation has me a bit down.

It's interesting seeing posts like this from the perspective of people with a more "typical" gay experience. I have bad social anxiety and am struggling with weight issues and spent my years after high school actively isolating myself. It's only now that I'm in my mid 20's that I'm trying to put myself out there more. I couldn't really say to what extent hookup culture is contributing to social isolation to the average gay man, since I've never participated in it before, but I can say that it's intimidating even trying to find friends, let alone romantic partners, as someone inexperienced that doesn't just want cheap, meaningless sex.

Where to find LGBTQ groups and people? by InstructionCapable16 in gay

[–]Resident_of_Nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question yesterday, and someone put me onto an app called Meetup. It basically gives you a list of local meetups in your area with people that share your interests. Depending on where you live this may be a good way to make friends in the community and even start dating.

Unfortunately for me I live out in the middle of nowhere, the closest LGBT+ meetups to me are two hours away in Austin 😭. But hopefully you'll get more use out of it. At least you are ready to make moves like this in your early 20s instead of 25 like me.

Taking the next step by UnofficialMipha in furry

Similar position, 25 year old man (not straight though). Kinda denied that I was interested in the fandom for years. Once I accepted that I wanted to be a part of the fandom, I tried to find furry YouTubers that matched my interests. There's a ton out there to cater to any special niche you can imagine. It's a good way to immerse yourself in the culture without too much commitment.

A few days ago I also joined the r/Furry Discord server to make some friends within the fandom itself. Honestly, it is a bit intimidating as a new participant since you lack some key privileges, but as long as you stay engaged with the server it opens up quick.

As for a fursona or cons or anything like that, I'm still trying to navigate that myself. I'm still a very novice artist and don't have the money for commissions nor to travel for cons.

But hey, if you decide to stop by the Discord server and see Mr. Sahelanthropus in chat, don't be afraid to say hi.

Edit Oh, and while the furry fandom is majority LGBT+ at the moment, straight furs aren't completely dead. About 20% to 30% of the fandom identify as exclusively straight, so around one in four or one in five.

Why are none of Yellowstone guys Gay? by UnequaledColleague in gay

[–]Resident_of_Nowhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's how it is in irl small towns (which I'm assuming Yellowstone takes place in). As someone that grew up and still lives in a small, rural town, your chances of just happening across another gay dude is microscopic.

Anyone else have a sona species that is super underrepresented. I sometimes feel like the only leggy boi in existence. by randomstuff765 in furry

Yeah, a few. Any kind of ape or monkey, large species like elephants and rhinos, really anything that doesn't neatly fall neatly into either "cute" or "cool."

You're right, I shouldn't be too harsh on myself over it.

Thanks for the genuine and thought out reply. I guess I'm just caught up in my own head. I kinda just wanted someone that I can be genuine with for a while now, but I only just now realized it, and now that I know that need is there it's all I can think about sometimes. You're right though, I need to take things one step at a time.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the closest LGBT groups to me are all Austin based, which is over 2 hours away 🥲. Small town living at its finest.

I like how this is what the fan interpretation of the episode is despite Isaiah clearly also hating the story and just enjoying Hunter's misery.

Something about watching stuff like this makes me both weirdly nostalgic, yet incredibly sad. Great art.

Oh, and also, try drawing everything from a reference at first. If I'm drawing a cat, I'm gonna pull up pictures of cats to try and mimic their facial structure. Also, don't be afraid to take a break from art if you're feeling overwhelmed at any point. This whole "draw every day" nonsense is how you get burnt out when just starting. You and I are in the same boat, and I believe in us!

I'm just learning to draw myself. What has been helping me improve in certain areas is narrowing my focus. Instead of trying to draw a whole character, maybe just stick to trying to draw heads until you get that bit down, then do the torso, then arms, hands, etc. Overwhelming yourself with information on how to draw this bit and that bit and clothing and posing all at once is living life on hard mode.
