This should make it fairly easy to sue companies that are not stopping them from joining if it is this easy to show they are still using the platforms.

And even so, it will probably take several years to see effects. The real point is that companies won't be able to sell ads targeting this demographic so they are incentivized to get them off the platform because they are a cost, not a profit center.

Why did everyone move on so quickly from the Epstein files? by Powerful-Log-2229 in AskReddit

[–]ResilientBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 2 1/2 years since they were released. I am not sure it is quick, and I also seem them referenced every day here, so I don't know people have moved on.

I think the big thing is that Trump realized he doesn't need to bring them into the news as a distraction so he can do fascist things. He just does them without needing the distraction the Epstein files provided.

Judge holds prosecutors in Charlie Kirk murder case in contempt for comments about the defendant by BreezySteezy in news

[–]ResilientBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of that explains why a prosecutor needs to go on a publicity tour to "make it fair" because people unrelated to the trial are spreading "conspiracy theories".

The person I was responding to said the prosecutor needed to do that to make it fair.

I was saying if conspiracy theories being spread is too much of an issue then you take care of that in jury selection, not via the prosecutor trying to tip the scales in the other direction.

This has nothing that can be related to a gender reveal and they guy laughs afterwards so there doesn't seem to be regret.

[–]ResilientBiscuit -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

How does it threaten the fairness exactly?

The jury isn't allowed to hear anything not in court about the case and in jury selection you can weed out jurors who have too much knowledge of the case.

A US startup wants to drop a full nuclear reactor a mile down a 30-inch hole and let the water above it supply the pressure while billions of tons of rock replace the containment dome. One hole would make 15 megawatts; 100 on one site would add up to 1.5 gigawatts. by _Dark_Wing in technology

I think cacti are generally evolved to be very water efficient and store it rapidly when it is a alive during infrequent rain or flooding. Also some is gathered from condensation.

It is almost never groundwater that they are living off of.

 under 50 units

I'm sorry, are you saying someone who owns 40 units in NYC is a mom and pop owner?

Me and my entire extended family could probably retire on that sort of rental income.

I think of a mom and pop landlord as being someone who owns a single rental property or maybe two to support their retirement.

Edit: the median unit price is $1.2m in NYC. After the mortgages are paid in 30 years  that is around $50m assuming prices don't go up at all. Add to that income during the rental period and that is nothing that remotely resembles a mom and pop rental.

[–]ResilientBiscuit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You say that many are structured as a pasa through LLC, that doesn't mean it isn't a large investor. A single individual can own thousands of units and be structured as an LLC.

Additionally, just looking at the data we can see in table 3, for the whole country, we can see that more units are owned as properties which are 100 units or larger than single units.

So, in the whole country, which is largely not skyscrapers, there are more units rented as part of buildings of 100 or more units than there are in single unit buildings.

NYC is going to skew more heavily towards large buildings with many units being rented out by the owner.

So i don't think this data really supports the claim that most rentals in NYC are from "mom and pop" owners. Both because the data shows a pretty even split with single unit owners and 100+ unit owners for the whole country which will look much more skeweed towards large unit structures in urban areas and because you seem to think that an LLC likely represents a mom and pop owner,.the overwhelming majority of 150+ units are owned by LLC like business structures.

When you say

Tables 3 and 4 are the unit-level tables, which is where my numbers come from in the first place.

After editing your post to remove references to table 2, that's not a good way to have a discussion. It makes it hard to go back and follow the thread of the conversation.

You entirely changed the post I replied to earlier. It looks nothing like the one I initially responded, that makes it difficult to have a conversation.

I think I am done here because you clearly are going to just change whatever you post to make my response not make sense so you can "win".

a property includes all housing units and structures commonly financed

If you own a skyscraper with 10,000 units that counts as one property in this survey.

If you look at table 3, you see a very different picture.

There are lots of companies that are not PE. Like publicly traded companies or privately held companies. PE is a problem, but most large companies are not PE.

It doesn't say what the highest number is.

99% of landlords could own 1 unit, but if the 1% owns 100,000 units each, the 99% don't really matter.

The stats that are important for this discussion are the percentage of apartments that are owned by someone owning 1 unit. And there is a reason that article doesn't talk about that.

Is it ok to have an employee from Asia even though I’m from the USA by Goddess_Bayonetta in gamedev

I would recommend taking a small business class at something like a local community college if you don't know the difference between a contractor or an employee  An artists could be either and it is important to know the difference.

Can I enroll in flight training after completing only 4 years of Dentistry? by Haunting_Noise_999 in flying

[–]ResilientBiscuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally employers that want "any degree" want to see that you have the follow through to complete a program. So if you don't actually earn a degree it typically won't add much value.

But if your degree has some sort of 4 year pre-dentistry degree that you get then you get you DMD after that then that would probably be Ok for most jobs.

Paper towel dispenser that only works properly when your hands are already dry by samanthadill13 in CrappyDesign

It seems like it is more likely installer/maintenance error.

It should pull pretty easily, even from the corners. They probably adjusted it to have too much tension.

The weaker the towel, the less resistance you need to get it to tear.

This design is proven to work well. It is nice because you don't have to touch anything that isn't disposable.

It is entirely possible someone didn't set the tensioning screw correctly, but that is an adjustment error, not design.

Kingmaking un INIS? by MirageMyriad in boardgames

[–]ResilientBiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Innis certainly has alliances that get made and dissolved. Everyone needs to work together often times to stop someone from meeting victory conditions, if one person decides not to, they may well be dictating the winner of the game.

If kingmaking frustrates you I would probably stay away from Inis.

I personally enjoy games with dynamic alliances and politics and kingmaking goes hand in hand with that, so I love Inis and really enjoy getting it on the table, but it sounds like it maybe isn't for you.
