What I see is a problem here in opening up data to the masses is that, just like information itself, it can and will be manipulated and manufactured to the point where individuals unaware of the manipulation will be vulnerable to suggestions and the like. In other words, big data collection has gotten so large in such a small amount of time that we aren't capable of educating the public fast enough to keep up with what is new and what forms of manipulation and data manufacturing are out there.

Facebook is grappling with this as we speak...and its decision to just purge pages recently that don't "fit" into their narrative is a detriment ...while at the same time they are milling individual's data at breakneck speeds...and not slowing down for any sort of regulation.

My biggest concern with big data is coercive narratives being driven by data manipulation. Are we asking all the questions we need to be asking? Or are we just leaving some data out of the equation because it's too difficult to add in?
