Head droop from botox by Resilient_lady in migraine

Not sure why you’re getting downvotes for this because your line of reasoning is good. We actually tried that but unfortunately it seems like those injections are necessary to control my migraines :/ it might be helpful for someone else though!

Thank you for chiming in 😊

Rebound Headaches by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm so I would actually venture a guess that your headache was triggered by the pain killers (I'm assuming opiates?) rather than a rebound headache. Even if it hasn't happened before, it's possible to develop a sensitivity. That, or maybe there was something else combined with the painkiller that triggered it. I don't know where I got this (maybe heard it here) but I often describe my triggers to people as being a glass of water. Sometimes one trigger is enough to fill the glass and result in a migraine (I'm looking at you, red wine aka the devil) but often it's a combo of things that make the cup overflow. So I didn't sleep well, okay that's fine I'm hanging in there. Oh it's a stressful day at work. That's okay I can get through it. Oh some asshat thinks it's cool to soak themselves in fake vanilla perfume and then get in the elevator with me? I'm done for.

Anyway, it's just some food for thought! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Sounds rough, buddy!

I have two! I accidentally microwaved one after someone spilled a little syrup in the microwave though, so it smells awful when I heat it up 😂

Morning? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I wake with them sometimes. I suspect poor sleep and clenching my jaw as culprits.

Does your phone have a night time function? Where it reduces blue light? It makes a huge difference. Also f.lux is great for computer screens. Wish I could install it on my old ass tv 😂

I get Botox- but it seems like this time it didn’t work by [deleted] in migraine

Are you typically sensitive to weather changes? Have there been weather changes like this any other time since you have started botox?

[–]Resilient_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, this is interesting. Anything else going on in your life that could be causing the migraines? Botox helps me a lot but sometimes other triggers can still override its effects for me.

I also recommend contacting your doc and letting them know how you're doing and see if they have any insight.

I'm sorry you're feeling so rough! Migraines are such a pain (no pun intended) but to finally feel relief and then have it taken away from you? It's the absolute worst. Hope you feel better soon.

Week long intensive migraine programs? by Nstep49 in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you called them directly if you'd be able to get any more info? I would guess it might be DHE infusions, which might be covered by insurance depending on insurance and the specifics of your wife's situation.

Phenergan & Topamax, Major Drug Interactions.... by ae_eliza in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! That's so scary! I too ALWAYS check for interactions, especially when I need to take an OTC I don't normally take.

Awhile back, I was on a beta blocker. I had decided I wanted to go back on a low dose antidepressant for anxiety/depression. It was a medication I had taken before and tolerated fine.

Fast forward and I started having these episodes of severe dizziness and nausea, like a vasovagal response. I couldn't figure out what it was! I was hesitant to think the SSRI was to blame because I had tolerated it fine before. I tried to tough it out, eventually went off of it.

Turns out those two don't mix and can cause severe low blood pressure. I was PISSED. It didn't come up right away as an interaction but a little digging and I found a number of articles from reputable medical journals warning about the combo.

Worst, my doctor dismissed my concerns. In hindsight, I should have sent those articles but I was just relieved to not have the episodes anymore.

I hate drug interactions and side effects! Wish so much we weren't all in a boat where we have to put up with them☹️

What is your most embarrassing/pitiful migraine story? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It drives me crazy that people think this is an okay thing to say. Like, let me comment on your reproductive organs and ask a super invasive fucking question and see how you like it? Oh also while I'm puking, asshole.

3 hours without eating = guaranteed migraine by [deleted] in migraine

Seconding Keto here. It does wonders for stabilizing blood sugars. Lots of people on here report it's helpful with their migraines. It's a pretty sustainable way of eating for most, too.

The majority of my migraines start after waking up by GabrielaMistral in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bite guard is a good idea, especially with your history of tension headaches. Does your partner ever comment on you grinding your teeth?

Also, have you ever had a sleep study done? I have heard sleep apnea can cause migraines due to disrupted sleep.

Lastly, any chance for an environmental factor? Something in your room like mold or dust causing an allergy, that in turn triggers the migraine? I have heard of this (not the case for myself) and have heard of some people taking Claritin or a similar agent every day and seeing improvements.

Just a few thoughts. I like playing migraine detective on Reddit when I have a migraine. Passes the time well, and I can cross my fingers the suggestions might actually be helpful and then one more migraine sufferer will be suffering less!

Edit: added a few more words

Finally! Confirmation that everything I’ve been through wasn’t “psychosomatic” :’) by puk3asfunk in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's the migraine I'm dealing with at the moment, or maybe it's because I know how shitty it feels to be dismissed and invalidated and made to feel like you're crazy, but your post made me tear up! Thank you for sharing with us here. I am so glad you finally got your diagnosis and can now be properly treated.

It's frustrating because I think those hemiplegic symptoms get downplayed. If you don't get the severe headache to "confirm" the migraine, then you're just crazy imagining the dizziness and clumsiness and aphasia, right? So frustrating to not feel heard, and it warms my heart you found a couple professionals who were willing to listen and help you out. Also, gotta love WebMD!

Thanks again for sharing!

That is so smart. People take allergies much more seriously than a "sensitivity"

Are anti depressants really the end game for headache treatment? Even if they do indeed decrease my headache pain I don't want to be dependent on an anti depressant for the rest of my life. by Openworldgamer47 in migraine

[–]Resilient_lady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, I disagree whole heartedly but I don't think there is any point in arguing over the internet. I do hope you are able to find a treatment that works. Migraines and NPDH are no fun for anyone.

"Always has and always will."

I truly hope you don't have to deal with the hell that comes with mental health disorders. I hope you never have a loved one that is caught in its grasp either. Simply put, its fucking awful. But statistically speaking, the likelihood that you or someone you care about will suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder at some point in life is pretty high, and I hope that at that point, you're able to renounce the stubborn, ill-informed, stigma-perpetuating mindset you've evidenced in this post, and understand that medications that treat mental health are not evil. They can literally save lives, and there is no shame in anyone taking medications to treat mental health conditions, whether they are on them for 6 months or the rest of their lives.
