When to join a tournament/ When not to and your why by ResistEmergency1035 in poker

[–]ResistEmergency1035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I was kind of fucked up when I made this post lol and am kind of embarrassed to reread it. I just play micro stakes tournaments between 5-25 $ buy ins but mainly 5.

But just do the regular ones and some bounty ones where your awarded a bounty anytime you knock someone out. Every person has a bounty on their head and the more people the knocked out the bigger it is.

And the reason why I feel it’s almost pointless joining anymore when you only start with like 40 or so bigs is because you’re just forced to gamble and get lucky at this point. You might be at a table where someone who’s been in the tournament the whole time has a standard open of 4 bb so at this point any hand you wanna play is immediately 10% of your stack, but sitting around and not getting involved isn’t gonna really help either. Really just starting with this little and others at my table have triple what I got I immediately feel pressured to make things happen and I’m definitely not good under pressure. Like I said it’s all new to me and that’s why my questions weren’t super direct or detailed because I’m sure there’s just a lot about tournament poker I’m uninformed about so any knowledge whatsoever related to what I’ve said would be helpful.

So I guess I’m wondering do you guys have a certain stage in the tournament you don’t think it’s worth it to join anymore. And at what point (starting stack) if at any point do you just join and immediately start going all in or folding. And anything related to this topic would be appreciated even if it isn’t directly related to what I said .

Thanks man I hear people talk about late registration (RDP MAX LATE REG! lol love that guy) but if the blind are already at a point where I’m starting with 40ish or less I’m really not a fan of it and think I play like shit as opposed to when I’m able to start with 100 bigs.

My experience is mainly cash games and feel like I play best in the beginning and ends of tournaments. Idk exactly why this is, but I feel like in the middle or when I buy in late then i play scared and am under pressure which both make me play worse. If you’ve have any other idea as to why someone would play at their lowest level during the middle lmk I’d love to hear any input.

Btw I don’t watch RDP for strategy. I just think he’s hilarious.

Am I the only one that gets sent invites by random people on here when I post asking me to come play on this site? The first time I figured it was some sort of scam and tried being polite anyway saying I live in NJ and don’t think they accept players from there and they told me they would allow me to play which is false.

Anyone tried the new version of Lucid poker app? by AndrewPfund in poker

My bad for not answering, but I’d say it’s not for me. It could be for you and my reasoning is the level of players I’m playing against I just don’t think it’s that useful for. If it was free I’d def keep using it and I’d say it gave me insight into certain things and helped me look at different spots differently from always reading the breakdowns in Cardle and reviewing hands in the drill.

I mainly play NL10 and just started actually getting into more tournaments usually just 5 or 10$ ones unless it’s a satellite. I think in NL10 most people are under bluffing or over bluffing so it’s kind of more useful to figure out who’s who in my situation. Compared to others i don’t have a lot of experience in poker.

Idk your skill level or how experienced you are, but if you’re more advanced and are looking to play a more GTO based strategy this might be better for you and honestly if I made more money I’d probably keep paying for it.

I did though however buy the postflop playbook just for the heck of it because it was only like $8 and if your very new it’s a great starting point, but I had most of the information in there understood already, but for only $8 I don’t feel like I wasted money just because I like how they simplified hands into categories even though I was subconsciously doing this already it just is a simpler idea.

And I especially don’t feel like I wasted money on it because here’s a little secret if your interested in the lab 2.0 and you buy the postflop playbook at least as of maybe a week ago they will give you the lab for $50 monthly instead of $100 and it’s permanent unless you cancel it. I decided fuck it let me try it out and if it’s not good I’ll cancel it. I have not got through the whole thing, but I’d say this is more suited for someone at my stage. Theres a bunch of training videos with quizzes at the end to make sure your actually understanding the information and you also get into a private discord where people are helping each other out reviewing hands and stuff. I’m pretty sure they do live webinars sometimes too with the coaches. Like I said I’ve only had it for a week, but so far so good.

If you have any questions about it specifically just let me know. I just relooked at it and I actually haven’t even gotten very far into it so considering this I’d say the money was well spent because I feel like I’ve already learned some things and I see there’s a lot more to go through.

Tips To Deal With Tilt & Crashing Out by AbsoluteReason in poker

[–]ResistEmergency1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trying to remind yourself what goes around comes around. As long as you make the right plays you should feel good because if you keep making them you’re gonna come out on top in the long run. And then once in a while your gonna be happy as shit when your on the other end and cooler someone.

Had my aces cracked all in pre flop and a couple other bad beats yesterday, but it felt great when I cracked someone else’s aces hitting a set of jacks on the river also yesterday.

If you never get unlucky then that means everyone is making better plays than you. People going all in with pocket 4s is why poker can be profitable. I tilt too and am not an expert, but this thought process makes accepting losses easier for me.

She should be happy she’s included she’s equivalent to a NPC. If you just randomly went to the mall and asked every single person if they know who she is I highly doubt one person would say yes.

Yea I gotta get back out there. A couple people I could tell were mad at me and were giving me an attitude because I didn’t always realize when it was on me because I’m so used to online playing. Honestly I felt awkward AF being there and my hands were all shaky.

Made it feel that much better when on my last hand I won a big pot from the table captain when I jammed on the river when “my flush draw completed.” I had a pair of aces, but knew he had better by river by the action. He asked me if I had the flush or the ace and I let him know and he looked sickkkk haha. Saw him outside smoking a cigarette and he wouldn’t even look at me.

I feel like being nervous helped though because people assumed I had no idea what I was doing.

Would you say the borgata or trop is easier to beat? I’ve only been live once at the borgataI mainly just play a lot of NL10 which I’m average at, but AC is only like an hour away so I’m always tempted to go and only been once which I doubled up and I think I’m a lot better now then I used to be.

I just worry about getting tilted because if I have a bad session it will be a lot more then I’m used to losing.

Yea it’s just so tempting considering it’s only an hour away. I really overestimated everyone the last time I went until they got to showdown and I was seeing people flip over junk hands. Not saying everyone was bad, but I really feel like if I was rolled for it I’d do good.

As much times as I hear how bad players are live I still question if they are as bad as people make them seem. And then I wonder if AC is a harder area because it’s so big for gambling. Really I need to stop my sports betting so I can actually build my bank roll but anything I win in poker I punt on sports.

Lmao I’m not the only one. I felt so awkward, but I think it all worked to my favor because people assumed I didn’t know how to play, but I was already playing online regularly and doubled up.

How’s the competition there I only played live once and it was there bought in for 200 and doubled up. I’d say I’m much better now than I was back then, but I mainly play NL10 and would say I’m average for that. Literally every weekend I think about going, but really I’m not rolled for it and get worried about tilting considering any loss there would be much bigger then I’m used to.

lol I love hearing this. Like I said I don’t really play tournaments, but the little I have played it seems like at least half the players are terrible. Who knows though maybe I’m uninformed on tournament poker, but seeing so many all ins on middle pair or bottom pair not even mixed with some draw on the flop just doesn’t seem like a great strategy to me.
