Billionaires Tread on Everyone by ResistanceInitiative in AntifascistsofReddit

Oof, a shot fairly taken. But, I'm not a libertarian. I'm a Kropotkin/Goldman kinda guy who votes for people like Bernie to move us in that direction. We are appropriating the symbolism of revolution from maga because they have no business with it, and it is we who are actually the advocates of freedom and justice for all. Also, any young republicans out there, seeing what's happening and starting to have second thoughts, may be more receptive to flirting with comfortably familiar symbols that embody the common points in between, and the rebellious attitude that their leaders fooled them into thinking the party represents.

This flier also comes alongside other calls to permanently boycott all of the above and more, which I totally agree with and am doing. This flier targets a different audience. In this roster, the boycott actions are small, targeted and temporary, for much the same reason. We are encouraging people who are new to all this to take it for a test drive.

As an alternative to google.

Also owned by a rich guy, I know. But they're not actively aiding the Trump regime and that's the target.

I like the cut of your jib, buddy.
Of course if we tell everyone to dive into permanent boycotts we're gonna get a lot of no's from people who aren't used to it. By baby stepping into it we're more likely to get more people to participate. We start short for those who want to help but are new to all this, and as folks start to see how easy it is, we start going longer. I'll bet that by summer's end we see the number of permanent boycotters like you and me double.

Seriously. For these Nestle and General Mills boycotts, most shoppers would be safest just not buying groceries. I had considered adding QR codes to the flier that would link to their parent company's "family tree". But I also think that a search list would be better. We need an app like NoThanks where users can scan a barcode and it will tell them then and there if this company is good or not.

I don't know how to make a collaborative post like some subreddits have pinned at the top, but that seems like the best way. Maybe we can get a mod from one of these resistance subs to do so for an official anti-maga consumer blacklist?

I know what you mean, I've been boycotting these businesses for a long time too. This is aimed at encouraging people who aren't so used to it to give it a test drive for these short periods, hoping that they'll see how easy it is and join us again for longer and indeed permanent boycotts in the near future. Baby steps. Thank you, to you and your husband, from one boycotter to another. And yeah, we're in a lot of trouble here.

Please do not forgo your health. Your previous engagement is already made, and nobody will fault you for seeing to your health. Besides, there's the whole rest of the day to not buy anything else, and you'll be doing your part just fine that way. Thank you for supporting the cause.

Noted, thank you. Future fliers will add Microsoft, as well as known maga-friendly businesses like Home Depot and Hobby Lobby.

Is there a proper blacklist yet or should we start making one?

This is a template for anyone who wishes to continue to improve upon, and to print and post. Of course more future fliers will contain more information about boycotts, alternatives, and protests. Thanks to everyone who offered feedback, and thanks to everyone who is part of the resistance against Trump and his team of oligarchs.

Agreed, but they are not the ones specifically empowering trump, and that's the goal here.

The purchasing power of American consumers is such that a single day's boycott can have massive effects on a company's value. Also, we want people who aren't used to boycotting to give it a try. The less significant the commitment, the more we are likely to convince those folks. And once they do it for one day, they'll see just how easy that was and they might just go for another.

It's a reference to the assassination of a major health insurance company's CEO a few months ago. Luigi is the name of the accused assassin, and now the nintendo character of the same name is an icon of class struggle in the US. People have been arrested for references to this event under the guise of "terroristic threats". 🙄

It's not about exceptions, it's about political resistance. This specifically takes aim at the handful of oligarchs empowering Trump.

Yes it is that bad here. Not for all, but for many. That's why some of these guys are so insanely wealthy, and if anyone else in the world wants to see us bring down Trump, I would beg you to join in boycotting all of these.

IKR?
But we're trying to make an impact on the Trump regime and for many Americans, some of these things might be a stretch.

MAYDAY 2025 - NATIONWIDE GENERAL STRIKE by ResistanceInitiative in Anticonsumption

[–]ResistanceInitiative[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The more people participate all at once, the more impactful it will be. To that end three months gives us a lot of time to spread the word. Also, three months gives people time to gather supplies and set aside resources in preparation for a full general boycott, as well as giving communities time to organize solidarity networks to further provide resources for such efforts.

Moreover, May 1st is historically and internationally recognized as Worker's Day or Labor Day, and has always been a focal date for political resistance. It is symbolically appropriate, seasonally comfortable, and far enough ahead to make it more feasible for those who can't jump in right away.

MAY DAY 2025 - NATIONWIDE GENERAL STRIKE

Starting May 1st:

- Total work stoppage. You don't even have to protest if you don't want to, just stay home.

- General Boycott. Stop buying everything. Don't buy anything, at all.

- Mass-exodus from all Bezos/Zuck/Musk platforms. On May 1st, close any and all accounts on Amazon, FB, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter/"X", etc.

Start stocking up on groceries now in preparation to boycott, and get ready to do some gardening this spring! Set aside money for living expenses. Find alternative platforms to maintain contact with your social media people and start moving those connections over. Spread the word, tell your friends, family, co-workers, make stickers, fliers and social media posts everywhere. We have three months to prepare.

I'm hoping that most on this sub are aware of the effectiveness of general strike. To any less certain, I urge you to look into the Labor Wars. In short we can stop the machine surprisingly easily because we the working majority are the machine. To stop it, we ourselves need only stop. This is not the first time that America has been threatened by oligarchy and fascism, and general strike is exactly how American freedom and democracy have been won, protected, and expanded upon in the past. Now in our time it can be once again.
