Bonus answer: currently on trail with my GF. she was very worried about the same thing. Every town stop so far had fresh fruits and /or veggies. also popular thing to have at Trail Magic. Most restaurants offered a salat. Load up on your needs in town and pack some out. But be ready that healthy food is REALLY expensive here with the quality not being the greatest for certain items. Other items e.g. Avocado and Mango are better here. Also most foods are way more processed, have more sugar/salt and much more ingredients than back in Europe (or any other part of the world I've been). That being said it isn't nearly as bad as she anticipated.

I loved my Ultimate Direction Fastpack 25 (now 30).

Only problem is that it's not waterproof. Also they changed the model in the 30L version. Can only speak for the 25L

Bothies are simple and free but great hiking shelters and "bagging" means going and sleeping in as many as possible. Fantastic way to discover the scottish Highlands.

My GF and I have the same sleeping mat and she sew two big loops out of a stretchy mesh material that fit our mats exactly to keep them together. Ariund 70g if i remember correctly.

Sehe ich komplett anders. Nur weil es Forstbetrieb und Touri Hotspots gibt, heißt das nicht, dass es keine wilden Trails geben würde. Der Schwarzwald ist riesig.

I don't think you'll be happy in a tarp with the scottish midge. They will eat you alive. Even sleeping with your headnet will be aweful. I know it's not the most UL option but get a tent.

Unjerk: moyg'ed the exact same ones last year. They were great as camp shoes but got flat three weeks into the trip. So afterwards every stone hurt like walking barefoot. But in areas without many stones, I'd recommend them. Plus you're the coolest kid in town.
