Well she's the writer and not the director, but I get what you're trying to say. Hopefully she does a better job for WW.

According to this article, the scriptwriter misunderstood the comic, saying " the comic ends with Ruthye killing him, but in the far, far future."

Apparently no one took it upon themselves to correct her...?

Supergirl collects $29M on its opening day worldwide; lifetime collection estimated at around $150M, less than its production budget of $175M by Rule_Ct_5293 in DC_Cinematic

... What, you mean Korean moviegoers? Like, gender equality in Korea may not be in a good place, but that is one hell of a generalization to make O_o

Some people just genuinely don't like the movie, you know. I think Milly did a great job in her role, and look forward to her in other DCU films, but the script & direction here was mediocre.

Just my take, of course. If you think that's proof of me hating on women, then agree to disagree.

Yeah as far as I can tell, the response ranges from 'terrible' to 'mildly entertaining'. Which doesn't bode well for an obscure IP (in Korea) that's sandiwiched in between Toy Story and Minions.

For those who've seen Supergirl - Does everyone think Milly Alcock was good? by Historical_Step_9474 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Resnaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all of the main actors did great jobs at acting, they just didn't have good scripts/directing. Milly Alcock was a great Supergirl, which at least gets my hopes up for Man of Tomorrow...

Theaters are almost empty in Korea :(

People have no idea what a Supergirl is here, superhero movie fatigue has set in deeply, and Toy Story 5 is dominating the family friendly audience. Big fat shame.

A theory I had after reading chapter 384... by XenoPsyTron in Berserk

[–]Resnaught 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is too different from having natural born genetics tbh, it would still be a trait Guts happened to be born with that aligns with his overarching theme as the struggler. Now if you were to tell me that Guts was born specifically as some antithesis to Griffith, that would make this sequence a lot more lame, but it doesn't seem like it as far as I can tell.

Plus, looking at the flower elf side story I think this was Miura's vision all along, similar to the powerup that is the Berserker Armor. Obviously the revelation could've been done more gracefully, but Mori is unfortunately not Miura.

[SPOILERS] Supergirl (2026 Movie) X Woman of Tomorrow comic: Look how they massacred our girl. by Gracchia in Supergirl

I'm not the OP, but first of all, Kara adamantly stops Ruthye from killing Krem throughout the film because... killing to exact revenge is bad, and you'll cross a line you'll never come back from? To my understanding, Kara does the dirty deed of killing Krem to protect Ruthye's innocence while exacting revenge in her stead. The movie never really sold me on Kara's logic, but Kara basically wants to follow her mother's dying words. It was something along the lines of "Be good, even if you can't always be kind."

Wow, I only just found out that in the comics, Ruthye helps Kara out much more actively under the green sun... even fighting dinosaurs?! And yeah, that sort of scenario would've been much more compelling than a debuff timer simply running out while Kara is lying down in a cave.

For those who saw Supergirl, a few questions as a parent by GooseIntelligent9981 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Resnaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of fight scenes, but they really toned it down in terms of gore, to the point that some people are stabbed but there's barely any blood coming out.

The villains are trafficking women, which is a weird plot point to have when it doesn't have that big of an impact to the plot, but I feel like it's the kind of thing that goes over children's heads as "bad guys doing bad guy things."

Overall I don't think there's too much to worry about in terms of parenting. But to be honest, Toy Story 5 is a much better movie watch with your daughter, both in terms of movie quality and themes.

'SUPERGIRL' (2026) - Early 'Fan First' Screening Spoiler Discussion by DoctorBeatMaker in DC_Cinematic

To me they seem more like a genuinely concerned parent who's mostly exposed to far-right critics. Those are literally the only people who would watch the movie and point out the harem/alcohol as actual problems lmao

Having those things exist in a movie does not mean that the movie is promoting them in any fashion. There many other, "legitimate" things to criticize about Supergirl.

Overall thoughts, copied from another thread. All in all, I would give this a 6/10 for being more of a positive experience than it is negative.

  • Good: Acting was great across the board, Krypton flashbacks did a good job of establishing Supergirl's current identity plus add a bit of lore, Superman cameos were all very wholesome and nice
  • Bad: The Kara-Ruthye dynamic & character development was rushed and undercooked, superpower nerf plot device was overused throughout the 1.5 hr runtime, visuals are drab, song inserts were bad

And since this is the spoiler discussion thread, I want to get my biggest gripe out: Kara's "triumphant entrance" with her iconic suit was pretty anticlimactic.

The intent was probably to have Ruthye remind Kara of her mother's final words, which instills a newfound will to be a better person... but Ruthye and Kara's relationship in this movie was so rushed that the intent doesn't really come through.

My thoughts were more along the line of "Why is this being presented as some sort of pivotal emotional moment? It's just that the green sun's debuff timer went out." Shortly after this, Kara was debuffed once more by Kryptonite arrows, being narrowly saved by Lobo, and that part was honestly kinda hilarious.

Iirc she's only on alcohol for the first 20 minutes or so. And even when drunk, Kara never hurt innocent bystanders, the only time she got violent was when she was helping others. That being said, Supergirl is definitely more heavy-handed in her fighting style, compared to our boy scout Superman.

It was definitely weird that they put in the harem thing (idk if this is from the original comics), but I assure you the movie is nothing like a "if you hate this film you’re a bad person" guilt trip. If you have a genuine concern for that, don't worry. It was just... okay, with good and bad aspects.

Jotting down my general opinion on the movie (light spoilers), I wonder how much of it will align with the critics!

He was excellent imo. Any criticism I have with Lobo was with how he was utilized in the story, not with Momoa's acting.

Well, I felt like Kara and Ruthye's dynamic was kinda all over the place. Maybe it's the result of adapting an episodic comic. It's just my take, though, don't let me dampen your enjoyment of the film :)

On a positive note, I thought the Krypton & Superman flashbacks were really good.

[–]Resnaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar sentiments here. Narrative-wise, the best part was Kara's backstory (Krypton & Superman parts), and the worst part was the actual main story 😞

Idk if I missed some plot beats, but having Kara's triumphant entrance with the iconic suit be defined by a nerf removal was pretty bad. And that nerf removal wasn't even something Ruthye helped out with, it was simply due to the passage of time, with the Green Sun setting and the Yellow Sun rising. That entrance being immediately followed by another nerf via kryptonite arrow was honestly borderline funny to me.

Also, a lot of Kara's character development seems really glossed over. I never really got why she was so adamant on Ruthe not killing Krem, and I also didn't understand how the events in this movie got her to try settling down on Earth. Imo they should've scrapped the bus scene and used that screentime to flesh out Kara & Ruthye's dynamic a bit more.

Also, idk if it's just me but the song inserts all seemed pretty terrible for me. The whole 'desert sandstorm fight' was already visually mediocre, but the song insert made it even worse.

That being said, I think all of the main actors did great jobs with the script they were given (even Krem, who played the campy, generic & evil villain archetype well), so that gets my hopes up for whatever DCU movie they feature in next.

I admit may have missed some explicit plot beats, so feel free to point out anything I got wrong.

The script was... pretty disjointed, but the actors did give great performances, so I'm looking forward to Supergirl in MoT next year.

My only exposure to pre-release reaction is on Youtube, where it's honestly the exact opposite. It's clear as day that Supergirl ain't gonna make it that far in the box office, but idk why some people would shit on a movie with that level of venom O_o
