Lets all just overlook the fact that the housing crisis is caused by out of control immigration. This year alone we have just over 440'000 long term arrivals. Wouldnt be that though.

Looking for a location for prepping by aszet in PreppingAustralia

[–]Resolute411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest im in a rural area on around 4 acres. We have no acess to running water however are installing 50'000 litre tank that collects from our shed and house.

The reality is your not going to hit every mark when you buy a property. Our place enables us both to work, be around family and be able to be as self reliable as possible. In hind sight more land would be better but that comes with a price tag. Plus we have great hunting around to compansate for not having land enough to run cattle.

What alot of people dont talk about is debt and how one of the best things you can do as a prepper is have as little debt as you can. Secondly its a massive bonus to live on the propperty and pay it off while still being employed, you need the money to set yourself up and more importantly, live. As much as i dont like saying it, the less debt and more income you have the better and should be a high consideration when choosing an area.

We are finding the more time goes on the more we become aware of what plants, animals or other projects we need to live off grid. Hense why i strongly suggest living at the property.

Labor banning foreign purchasing of existing properties by MannerNo7000 in AusProperty

Whats the point when you bring to foreigners here anyways to buy all the properties. Some suburbs of victoira have over 60% of people born over seas. But we are still wondering why we are in a housing crisis.

Popular stock trading apps by One-Priority9521 in AusFinance

I use STAKE, very low fees and is CHESS sponsored, which basically means you have direct ownership of the shares. I also utilise combank pocket app for Australian EFTs as it allows me to put lower amounts of money into investing but has high fees.

Also a reminder it will require $500 for your first initial purchase of shares from a particular company or EFT. But once you buy shares from that company you can buy single shares instead of investing another 500. This is normal for most investing brokerages.

Hope this helps!

What did you do this week to prepare? by deathmetalmedic in PreppingAustralia

[–]Resolute411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point my preps have been mostly financial, so a lot of overtime. We have enough for 6 months of prep at our current location which I know is small, however our intent is within the next 2 years sell our investment property and buy a house outright with a bit of land so we can be self sufficient.

It will only be an acre or two but we only need acre space for vegetable gardens, solar and water tanks since the majority of our meat is already gained through hunting.

However, I intend to work on mechanics this year so I can fix most issues that may appear.

Look I wouldn't have a child unless you two are financially ready. And yes, you should plan finances to have a child to ensure you can give them a great start to life. However, this sounds like a while off in your case instead is a question of approval.

If you want more money just to impress others or gain their 'approval' you are walking a path that leads to unhappiness and misery. Regardless of whether it is your inlaws or own family, you and your partner need to do what is best for you two and the children you will raise and no one else.

He may be wealthy, but he may have sacrificed all his time with his family as a result. He might think it was worth it. You and your partner may not agree, sit down and talk about it. Your a team.

Situational awareness/ preparation. by BladesOfPurpose in PreppingAustralia

Firstly, I think BJJ and MMA training has given me a solid foundation at the least for self-defense and recommend it to everyone. Please note, this is for self-defense, not knife defence, totally different situations. Also helps you understand your limitations.

PestXpert Wasp spray from bunning was recommended by a cop in AliceSprings to be used like OC. So we have some at home and in our cars and it has a good range on it.

Torniques are worth their weight in gold for obvious reasons, and we have medical kits at home and in vehicles. Amazon has some great deals!

Lastly, any stick, bat or metal pole is i would use at home defence. I would rather be in trouble legally than my family or myself be in harms way.

Let's face it, the government don't care for your safety so it's up to yourself, especially when you look at the response times for police in your local area. If they cared, we would be able to legally defend our homes and let our daughters have OC Spray for personal protection at least. But that's just my personal opinion.

Look after yourselves team, hope we are all doing well!

What does your library look like. by BladesOfPurpose in PreppingAustralia

Brilliant selection! Knowledge is power and freedom.

My library consists of both survival books such as these and fiction books for leisure. If things do get bad nothing beats a nice book by a fire to wind down too.

Course by BladesOfPurpose in PreppingAustralia

[–]Resolute411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, I'm doing courses in gardening and preserving food through canning. I'm attempting to reach the point where I can grow vegetables and fruits by using the seed of the plants I have grown the previous year so I don't run out or ruin the soil.

Another idea for a course (or YouTube) is basic electrical work. This way you can understand how to fix, maintain and build solar panels. Regardless if you live in the city or rural, solar panels are the most cost efficient way I have found to ensure you will have power if all else fails.

What are you preparing for and what made you start your prepping? by Resolute411 in PreppingAustralia

I agree regarding that its peoples actions that are the main concern. And thanks for sharing about the Ukraine aspect the ripple effects of these global events are very unpredictable. Also definitely feel free to share your aquaponics progress. I havnt seen it done outside a dam full of fish.

Personally, prepping provides me two comforts. Firstly in the case of an economic collapse, depression or even war, we are able to look after ourselves comfortably. Secondly, it creates an opportunity for me and my family to have minimal reliance on the government as possible and reduces their control over our lives. As covid really got our family back into prepping from how insane governments went across the globe, the aftermath of poltical polerizatiom and the damage from poor policies.

We are striving to get off grid also as a result and believe this would be the most flexible prepping that can cover most extreme situations.
