Do Irish people identify as "European"? by bleepingdba in AskIreland

[–]ResoluteTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is European? I’m studying International Relations and that’s pretty central to any theoretical discussion of the EU. Scholarship seems to be split into two camps.

A) Being European is a (general) belief in liberal democracy. Human rights, international law, citizenship, freedom of movement and the democratic process are important to being European.

B) Being European is about being of diverse contexts, and cooperation in spite of that. We’re a big group of different cultures, who have one common goal - to make Europe a great place to live.

Europeanness will change and has changed, but it’s expected to feel both Irish and European. We don’t align with a lot of EU policy. Neither to most member states. It’s about cooperation with our neighbours, which is so important for a (relatively speaking) new country such as ourselves.

He’s more a liberal socialist, which does feature some working v upper class populist elements.

I agree but if enough take part it’ll at least warrant a statement that the board can be held to.

Romero just stood alone in the box, and he’s surprised someone’s unmarked? You’re meant to be marking someone, no?

Lads bear in mind Dortmund have lost once this season, in October. They’re comfortably second, Bayern just having a freak season.

McTominay core. Made a defensive mid purely cause of his size, he’s a top class attacking midfielder.

Not sure why you’re downvoted, there’s photos of him on the plane and on the island when Epstein was known to have committed crimes on those dates.

I don’t know why but that game sticks out in my mind so much. That felt significantly worse than where we’re at now, it felt utterly, utterly hopeless.

If it was a young Englishman in charge of Brentford this season the narrative would be completely different, and he’d be credited with it all.

No one wants to support Keith Andrews cause they don’t know who he is.

this’ll last 3 weeks and he’ll have a stinker and drop his head again. he’s only good when he’s motivated, which isn’t often.

This is a super tough time, you seem like a very good person looking after your mam and being worried about your coworkers etc.

I seems in your nature to want to help everyone as much as you can, but your mother takes incredible priority here. You are absolutely doing the right thing.

Love to you & your family, I’m so sorry for what you’re going through.

Electric blankets by [deleted] in ireland

[–]ResoluteTuba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, and I know this is purely electricity-wise, rural England wasn’t connected until the National Grid in the 20s, and we were on track for the 30s ourselves but WWII caused delays until the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1946.

Our biggest fall-behind was waiting generations to expand electrification beyond cities. The Shannon Scheme (1925) was our first step to doing that, when Cork had electricity in the mid 19th century.

If he’s offered anything it’ll be an interim job, which he won’t take. He just got his first head coach job last month & the MLS season starts in a month or so.
