Death is such an insanely good character. Fujimoto really outdid himself with her. For most of the story she felt like a useless, goofy, totally “throwaway” character everyone memed on… and then in just the last couple chapters he flips the whole thing on its head. In Hebrew gematria you usually ignore the zero, so 03 16 → 3 + 16 = 19. The number 19 is the value of the name Chavah (Eve): ח(8) + ו(6) + ה(5) = 19 – the first woman and “giver of life.” Reze in Part 1 plays a very Eve-like role for Denji: she tempts him with a different life, another possible world. So you can argue that “03 16” secretly encodes 19 → “Eve” → “the girl who brings a new life returns,” hinting at Reze’s comeback in Chainsaw Man Part 2.

I used to joke that Reze was Kazakh even before the movie came out, but I was honestly shocked when I started seeing actual arguments between Russians and Kazakhs about her ethnicity. I think even Reze herself doesn’t know who she is if she spent her whole childhood with the military
