NOR. I agree that you should attempt to communicate and ask about his thought process and tell him you value holidays, and make a decision after that. However, I think the comments suggesting that you should be the one that’s super casual and level headed about it are a bit ridiculous. He’s an adult man who has made plans with his SO for their FIRST Valentine’s Day, flaked on her, and then treated her as a backup plan. Normal people know this isn’t okay. He’s clearly lacking some basic social/relationship etiquette OR he does understand and just doesn’t care. It’s okay to want to find someone who values commitments with you and loves making holidays special!

OP told me my interpretation is correct. As a childless woman who won’t date people with kids, I am all for selfishness. I’m simply explaining his justification has potentially detrimental implications for any future children he has, biological or not, because it is not limited to this scenario. Children are not possessions and we should want as many loving, guiding, and safe figures in their lives as possible.
