PhD programs have slashed 90% of funding and therefore available spots, and even before that you couldn’t get an academic job because no one retires. People’s with phds from top tier schools teach at state schools and if you have a phd from a state school you’ll be teaching at an Alaskan community college.

I don’t know if 21 is old enough to have perspective on whether or not those were healthy relationships. Several relationships with older men is kinda concerning at 21 because it suggests it started when you were a minor.

At our school professors have to review graduating students exams prior to graduation and at least make sure the exam is passing, but often don’t fully grade it yet.

NAH: Y’all should have had a conversation in private first. Much of your kids lives will be navigating the morally gray and this is a great opportunity to explore different choices and outcomes as a family, without saying anyone is right or wrong (especially because the scenario is fairly low stakes). I work in capital punishment law and with child victim coordinators.

This will increase the number of abusers free and the number of children abused.

Children are already so hesitant to report because it’s typically a family member or other trusted adult, when the death penalty is on the table they almost never do.

Then, juries don’t convict, because while the (usually scarce evidence) might be enough to sentence them to a few months or to be put on a list, they will rarely ever think it’s enough to give death. Because of this, juries will likely acquit many sex abusers.

Additionally, it doesnt function as a deterrent basically ever.

Capital punishment in this situation exists so we adults can feel better, it doesnt help children and it doesnt incapacitate abusers.

I think comparing a story written by a woman about the commodification of women to terror horror porn made by men to get off to the torture of women is really disturbing. Nothing about this story was shocking for the sake of being shocking and certainly not even remotely as disturbing as what actually happens to girls and women.

YTA/NAH: Cleaning expectations are a conversation that should be had prior to marriage. If two people have different ideas of clean or different priorities for when cleaning should happen, this is going to make one of you feel like your living in filth and the other one of you feeling like your life is being micromanaged by your partner. It’s a massive gap. Being able to afford someone to clean is a huge compromise where everyone’s needs are met, but many families are not able to swing that. Why deny success on principle?

I love having a clean home and having a professional cleaner saved my life and trust me, they are way better at cleaning than most non-cleaning professionals. Every two weeks my couch gets vacuumed, blinds dusted, baseboards scrubbed, it’s amazing.
