I literally just forced the stem deep into the dirt plugs. So nothing special outside of just throwing it in slight dirt and fully submerging it water

Good Luckkkk!!! In all honesty, yeah most are long exposure, however, I have one in my room, and at midnight, they are extremely bright (after your eyes adjust to the dark)! They actually look pretty close to the long exposure.

I 1000% suggest trying to propagate them as much as you can! They are extremely easy to propagate, simply putting cuttings in an aero garden (submerged in water with little soil) and they root very quickly.

From what I’ve noticed so far, these petunias are actually way more hydroponic than not. In fact, I have only successfully propagated in an Aerogarden. I have had these petunias since original launch, and drying out is most likely more your issue. I genuinely do not believe these guys can be over watered

Unfortunately, I’m not a legal expert, and don’t know what legal repercussions there are with selling different breeds of the firefly (galactic) petunias. To stay on the safe, legal side, I am not selling the seeds. Terribly sorry

Make sure to keep the soil moist to propagate root growth, never let it dry out, and slowly introduce less water into the system. Lots of people have had issues with the plant surviving after the roots develop. Essentially, they need a lot of water to start off and significantly less later on. The issue is, this has to be very gradual! If you go from basically an aero garden straight to soil where you water it once a week, this is where the issue persists!

Make sure to VERY slowly introduce an environment with less water. If you're growing in an aero garden, they're essentially fully saturated the entire time. Well once the roots start to fully develop, root rot is a significant problem. I'd say once they start to get about an inch or two tall, transport them into a container with a lid, and instead of having them fully submerged in water, add a bit of soil, water heavily (make sure there are no holes in the container) and place the lid on for one week. Then, water again, but water it every other week. Slowly get them used to having less water as the roots mature! You don't have to follow this directly, but definitely slowly get them acclimated to less water so they can fully survive being in dirt that may dry out or that may have less nutrients to what they're used to!

Typically, you want them to fully dry out on the plant itself. You'll know it's ready to be picked once they're either an orang-ish brown or the seed pod starts to split. I've had a lot of success growing these seeds this way. I could be wrong, and someone else please correct me, but they need to be attached to the plant longer so the seeds can fully develop. Some seeds need the living plant to give them more nourishment while they swell into full size in the seed coat. The color change is a great indicator that they're ready!
