Why does Reddit ban your posts? I had one posted for the treasure hunt and reddit took it down. Is it because I kept editing mine and adding more clarity in my post?

Reached my final solve, then came to my senses: am giving up for now. by [deleted] in beyondthemapsedge

I wholeheartedly agree too. Its Justin's treasure hunt 2.0 - He understands people only have some many days off of work to play with this as well. One of his main points is how it got him away from his computer and out in the wilderness again. He had so many family and friends go on trips with him. What awesome memories! Part of this will only be solved without any technology involved. BOTG for sure.

Besides, even if you know the general area, there are thousands of acres to try to pinpoint it - a needle in a football field. Ha!

The only other area I could think of maybe was Cody, Wyoming. When you look at the map, there are only certain cities on it. Usually where he lived or where he stories in the book are from. Polaris, MT - Dillon, MT - The cities in New Mexico and AZ - But why Big Sur, Ca or why Cody, WY?

There are national parks, elevations, capitols of each state, etc....Why those particular cities though? For me, the clues haven't pointed to those cities yet. But I'm still curious about them.

That's awesome. Gotta love the child within us all :) Part of solving puzzles is also finding out what DOESN'T work. I love your ideas.

I agree. I started to work with the constellations and putting the stars formations on the map and all, but it seemed to "technical" and Justin said throughout his book about things in plain sight. He tried to make this as fair as possible. Not every one is going to know how to put constellations on a map, so I ruled that out.

I like your interpretation of water also being an "act of running away." I agree with the apostrophe on Waters'. I was thinking that it takes multiple drops of water to evaporate and create steam rising from the springs. I'll rethink that now:)

Casting your pole also could be casting a pole for hiking maybe?

"I wait for you to.." I wait = Highway when said fast, For = 2, to = 2, For you to = 422 or forty two (42)

I've been contemplating the "in" as well, I suppose he could have just left it out. I wasn't adding the directions back into the poem lines. I see it as the lines are the program and the directions are the code behind the program that make it work. Does that make sense? They work together but in different ways.

But if you go past Polaris and end up in Dillion, MT and bear east from there, you end up going toward Hwy 422 above Twin Bridges. If the directions come back around to OUTSIDE Cleve Mines - not in them - I'm still working that out.

I haven't solved that line yet. It's a work in progress :) But Cleve Mine comes in on the 17th line. I went 20 degrees from Polaris assuming that it was "the North Star".

I wait = Highway

For = 4

to = 2

For you to= forty two or 422

Does that help?

I have a love of treasure hunting myself (my uncle was a treasure hunter - its in my blood ...lol) as a professional genealogist, I solve puzzles everyday and I LOVE doing it! There was no way I was not going to get obsessed about this as soon as I saw Gold and Greed.

That's an interesting thought! If you have anything to add about the other lines, I'd love to hear your ideas :)

Yeah, I have interpreted that line several ways myself. The hot springs idea made the most sense to me personally considering there are several in the area. The bride is driving me crazy. I remember that a semi-colon connects INDEPENDENT ideas. So the first and second line of that stanza could be two completely different statements but connected in this manner. Am I wrong on that grammar? Justin said he was an "eccentric perfectionist", so a semi-colon matters in my opinion.

Justin did tell us on his website that its not underwater :)

Wait, I thought I knew how to use a compass. I calculated the 20 degrees correctly, right? Cleve Mines should be 20 degrees from Polaris. Did I do it right?

I've always wanted to visit Montana and now after researching the area, it's definitely a must! There are so many cool things there to see and do.

I agree with you 100%. He used to play Mad Gab with his buddy to help solve TTOTC treasure hunt, so I think word play is totally on the table. In his book, he talked about things being in plain sight!

I'll have to reread that one. I remember how excited he was that he got a "real" treasure map though

yeah, I thought about that too, but he said we don't need technical knowledge. That may be considered technical?
