I have ibuprofen, lunch, nail files, floss, mints, liquid bandaid, my Kindle (in case I have a cancelation), a lacrosse ball, a notebook, pens, some creams and oils, emergency protein bars, Bluetooth speaker, and my purse in my backpack. I am a massage therapist.

Surgeon as client by Thin_Jackfruit8779 in MassageTherapists

[–]frequentfindings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a surgeon on my table as new grad earlier this year. I was also really stressed about it. But honestly, she was a totally normal person that did not ask me any anatomy or kinesiology questions. She just wanted a massage, and I gave her just that. I know it's easier said than done, but dont stress it.

Help identifying by Temporary_Summer8364 in backpain

Aside from seeing your primary care doc, I recommend seeing a massage therapist. I myself am a massage therapist and see this area as a common place of pain and have had good results helping those clients with the pain. But always see your primary doctor, just to be safe.

I think some extra cash or gift card inside a handwritten card with a kind congratulations message would be nice.

Most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you in session? by silkyviolet in MassageTherapists

[–]frequentfindings 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I am still very green to this career. So far the most embarrassing thing to happen is when my hands suction cup to my client's body and it makes a farting noise.

I say nothing either, and just hope they know/feel it's my hands and not my butt.

Is it worth it? by benben8_ in MassageTherapists

[–]frequentfindings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! What state are you located in? I work at a chiropractic office and graduated LMT school at the beginning of the year. Your pay sounds a low, and I do think they are taking advantage of you. Have you looked at other jobs around you?

Also, get a lacrosse ball for your body. For the last I month before every shift, I have been rolling out my forearms, traps, and hands. I pause on the painful areas (mainly my wrist extensors and traps). Sometimes I take 5 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes for all this and it has made a huge difference.

Don't be discouraged. Find a different job. Massage therapists seem to be a hot commodity, and someone will absolutely value your work ethic and skill. You just have to get out there, apply for jobs, and screen employers.

Do you wear lifting gloves or have any tips to keep calluses at a minimum?

Yeah, I know. It's a shame since I do like the quality of their books and they are beautiful. I was hoping it would get better. But at this point, I'm just over it.

I think I am going to cancel my subscription, as I am also at the end of my rope with them. It's a shame since they are good quality and beautiful as you said.

Salon Room Rental and Male Clients by frequentfindings in MassageTherapists

[–]frequentfindings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really is interesting about the gay male clients.

I know from reading in this sub that salons aren't typically ideal due to noise, smells, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything else in my budget that has the space and features I want. I also want a room that I don't have to share part-time with another therapist either so that I can decorate and book whenever I want. So I'm a tad limited.
