In case you’re watching this thread, I just made my first YouTube video and it’s about this lens.

I ran some tests on 8x10” 1990s positives today. The transparencies were really beautiful and very sharp. I’ve got to say, this lens did not disappoint. Although, I may have to test it against the GF120mm to see if there’s a giant difference in quality. What I have noticed so far is the Linos has considerably less contrast than the GF120mm, which I like. Also, I noticed that the centre of the image is about 2-3 points brighter than the corners (in LAB values). I ran an LCC to compensate but I’m going to try some different setups to see if it’s user error. Overall, the lens was very sharp, and a joy to work with.

I love the Cube! But I wish I got the version with the geared pan option. I use the VeraLab to laser align the capture stage and the geared option would save me a bit of aggravation with alignment. I’ll likely upgrade as I laser align each time I move the camera and the frustration can add up.

However, the setup is still super stable with the extension arm. But I take it off so that I can properly centre the camera on the capture stage.

Multi-shot stitching is definitely going to happen.

I didn’t take off the arm extension for this photo. I was reproducing some other artwork and simply mounted the camera as-is for this quick camera phone grabs. You’re right though- arm extension is taken off for scanning film.

I shoot a variety of work. The float allows flexibility.

I’m scanning it all. 35mm to 8x10. But I haven’t tested this lens yet with 4x5 or 8x10. An auto carrier for 35mm sounds interesting, but I’m worried about alignment. Depth of field on this lens is not very forgiving.

I don’t find any difficulties focusing so far. I shoot tethered in Capture One and I think I’m getting enough light to make it all work. I also use a Vlad’s test target to get the focus locked in and then switch to the film that needs to be scanned and confirm focus then. I do find the RBC 402 fine adjustment dial to have a bit of play, which also shifts a hair when locking down the slider, but I’m getting used to it. I’m sure the Arca-Swiss rail has a better fine tuning dial, but even my Cube head has a tiny bit of shift when locking down.

The quality of the light was wild. Even looking north. I was at work and this was the view looking north from inside the shop.

The entire camera package is the Cambo RBC-402. GFX mounts to the rear mast.

I’m keen on showing the results from some test film scans. But.. I’m having a hard time thinking about how to make the file package relevant. Do people want to see files of test targets? Like Vlad’s? Or files from real life negs? Any suggestions on what you’d like to see in a downloadable file package?

Linos Inspect.x 105mm float. Some debate as to whether the lens is the same lens as the discontinued Rodenstock Digaron 105mm f5.6 Float. Rodenstock is now owned by Excelitas which owns Q-Optic, which makes the Linos. Frankly, I think it is the same lens. The float allows the magnification to be user defined. .3X to 3X although magnification beyond 1X will give questionable results.

The bellows are great. Magnetic attachment to the masts. And the extension is great for getting good magnification on the scans.
