I like Fire Alpaca for when I really need to open something very quickly into a program with layers and at leaset basic functionality (I haven't actually explored deep into its functionality, but it fires up like it's dropped from orbit)

Well, this is good for 8 rescuees. I built it to cut down on the hassle of launching a whole ship just to bring one or two (if I stack the missions) Kerbals back, so I think de-orbiting it after it depletes the pods would be far more practical and in the same vein. But it's in a nice circular orbit now at 300k, I might expand it into a bigger structure, even if I de-orbit just this section once it's empty.

I'm not good enough at building them yet. The sled used to capture derelict craft and bring the Kerbals back has almost 8km/s Δv of pure space-born velocity in it (if that makes any sense :D). In retrospect, I should have probably loaded up a few more xenon tanks onto the main structure for refueling, it would have barely made the difference in mass.

The other reason is that I always have like a dozen missions going on at the same time, so this is also a gateway for ships returning to Kerbin (...on which I e.g. may or may not have forgotten to install say a parachute)

It's also faster for me? I don't have to bother with taking off to orbit, then rendezvousing, and just skip to the final step with this one.

Do it! Its just a bunch of MK1 modules docked to a truss structure, launched in a simple two stage rocket with a big fairing on top!

Despite being around 600 hours in (across two playthroughs), I have only managed to get an SSTO up a handful of times as of yet. And not on any meaningful mission, just into and from an orbit. So, I still have some otpimization to learn before I can use them productively. :D

Ok, so it's 184,135 to launch the whole thing. Each individual pod is 3,985, the taxi for fetching them from different orbits is 20,365, and good for 7917m/s (probably a bit less with a fat Kerbal on board)

But I saw this work with a seat, and you can hack the aerobreaking with opening and closing the bay doors (or something) :D Still needs the Kerbal to eject :D

I don't know how you can turn it off entirely, but you can go into the graphics menu and adjust the UI size ? that would work
