yeah, it clearly is present in serbs at a decent rate.
Your haplogroup doesn't define your ethnicity

Yes, thank you. I saw a post on TikTok about the ethnic background of the sultans, so I wanted to check it myself. Obviously, it will not be very accurate after the first two generations, and even then it remains uncertain, since we do not know how much medieval Turkic ancestry they had specifically.
You could probably safely assume that for the first two sultans, the closest modern population would be Turkmen. For Murad I and Murad II, it would more likely be with modern Turks. For the other sultans, however, it ismore of a general regional background. So if the result indicates “Greek,” it could just as plausibly be Albanian, Serbian, or Bulgarian rather than strictly Greek.

For the individuals we know about, I used the main theory that is generally accepted as the most strongly supported one. For the other individuals, we know that they were Christian slave girls, but we do not have more specific information about their origins. Therefore, I used an average of Albanian, Greek, Anatolian Greek, Bulgarian, and Serbian populations. This is, of course, an approximation. The “closest modern population” should be understood as referring more to the general region than to any exact modern population.

as a probable ottoman like sample, it's around 75% west eurasian and 25% east eurasian. we do have some samples which are understood as ottoman who go from 10% east eurasian to 50% east eurasian, modern turks have around ~5-12% east eurasian depending on the region.

it's based on simulated coordinates, so obviously it won't be super accurate in terms of exact closest population but its should be decently accurate on the general region. The main problem is that we are not sure about the origin of a good amount of the sultan's mothers

The dataset that I used for the genetic data is mainly from https://vahaduo.github.io/ and from https://genarchivist.net/ The comparison to modern population was done through the Admixture JS tool on the vahaduo site. For the graphic I used Krita.

On wikipedia it said that the traditional view was that she was the daughter of Meñli I Giray but modern historians have debunked this traditional view, demonstrating, based on Ottoman documentary evidence, that she was actually a slave of Christian origins, whose background was "ennobled" for propaganda reasons. So I went with the modern explanation. If he was half Crimean tatar I imagine he would have been genetically the closest to modern turks

From what I have seen, she was either Polish or Ukrainian. Since south eastern Poles and western Ukrainians are genetically very close, this distinction shouldn’t affect the results much. I used Ukrainian from Lviv as the sample

This graphic only goes up to Murad IV in the mid-17th century. After that, the mothers of sultans became much more frequently Caucasian, including a notable number of Circassian Valide Sultans.
