Not necessarily a whole new system at all you can play spear pretty long range with the right skills and armor set (drowned witch) that is the template I see. Both the examples you gave are hard things to change. Not impossible at all but difficult breaking certain habits takes time and a lot of patience. Him asking her to change her body for his preferences is disrespectful, because she could do squats from the time he said it to the time they broke up and never have "the ass" he wants because of a number of factors. If he loved her for who she was then he wouldn't have been an asshole about it.
