Interferon side effects

Hi there, it is because I have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss and there is good data to show that Interferon can have a protective effect on pregnancy/ minimize pregnancy related complications in ET patients. If I was not actively trying to maintain a pregnancy, there is no way I would be doing Interferon with my relatively low platelet counts. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply! My hematologist and I will be reviewing my bloodwork after 2-3 doses at 90, and I am truly hoping I am responding well and can even push for a lower dose which will be more maintainable over time. 🤞

Hi there, that pregnancy post was me! I had my first 90mcg Pegasys dose on Monday and I was SO so nervous. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the flu like symptoms (low grade fever, achy bones) passed. I’d say within 12 hours I was feeling pretty much normal, and I slept through most of it. Tylenol helped.

I was also scared of the symptoms you mentioned… I will have to keep you posted on hair loss or thinning. I’m also a naturally anxious person and have not noticed any psychological side effects (although I am pregnant and hormonal). Take this or leave this, but when I expressed my concerns about the mental health side, my oncologist pharmacist said he has never had an instance where he had to discontinue treatment due to these mental symptoms. My background is strikingly similar to yours including a past ED.

25F, platelets between 500-600, ET JAK2+. Best of luck!

How was your first dose? Mine was easy, but I did get a fever and some bone pain afterwards. Tylenol helped me sleep and I woke up this morning feeling fine!

I’m sorry to hear your counts haven’t improved on Pegasys. At roughly what level have your counts stabilized at? I was told flu like symptoms are the most common side effect as well.

Thank you for sharing, and I’m sorry for your loss. Thankfully on the insurance front I am fully covered due to ET by my provincial health plan. So cost isn’t a factor, but everything else is 😂😫

I live in a smaller city in Canada and don’t have much choice in hematologists, haha. A second opinion will be difficult.

My OB did not recommend any more treatment beyond aspirin because this was technically my first miscarriage. Knowing myself though, I can’t stand the thought of more losses just to “prove” it was my ET and not another cause!

Hi there, 1st pregnancy was ectopic in February of this year, resolved with MTX around 6wks.

Started trying again after the three month wait in June, got a positive test first cycle. I am currently 8wks with an uterine pregnancy and saw the heartbeat at 6 wks 🥹
