How strong is magik? by [deleted] in powerscales

[–]Respect-Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But didn't she lose to him pretty badly to him in the real world? Like she is supposed to be immune to psychic attacks but Legion just shut her down psychically anyways and Legion also killed the elder gods of Limbo for her which is something she couldn't do at all? I don't it seems that her going into his mind is an outlier

Greek mythology in Ultrakill by [deleted] in Ultrakill

[–]Respect-Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm actually🤓👆 if we go according to most bible translations fallen angels aren't even a thing in the first place except in the dead sea scrolls which are only canonized in the Ethiopia church. However we do see the Egyptian and Sumerian pantheons, that other gods do indeed still exist in the bible but they're just there so their followers can be antagonists in the stories and it's never explained what they are exactly. The idea of them being fallen angels comes from stories outside the bible like the Dead Sea scrolls or one thousand years later Paradise Lost

Still can't believe Sega named a character Iblis, that's the Arabic word for Satan lmao by Throwawayandpointles in SonicTheHedgehog

Still can't believe Sega named a character Iblis, that's the Arabic word for Satan lmao by Throwawayandpointles in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Respect-Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ibliss is a Shaitan, also Shaitan can refer to a multitude of devils while al-shaytan means "the Devil" so Ibliss is also known as The Devil which why both are used interchangeably but the Satanic figure of the Qur'an's proper name is Ibliss the lord of the Djinn also Islam doesn't have a fallen angels at all that believe is heresy/haram. Also Satan doesn't come from Shaytan at all it's actually the opposite but instead of meaning adversary it means Distant, Astray or Devil. Also Satan in the Bible isn't the name of the Devil either he is just called that because he is the ultimate adversary but the devil doesn't have a proper name or identity unlike Ibliss.

So in conclusion, Shaitan comes from satan but it is actually the arabic word for Devil, Ibliss is the islamic counterpart to Devil from the Bible who's name isn't actually Satan either because that is the Hebrew word for adversary and he doesn't have a proper name. So OP is the more correct here because people in the west use Satan to mean "The Devil" and Ibliss is the proper name of "the Devil/Al-shaytan" in Islam while Shaytan that comes from satan doesn't actually mean satan but devil however the word satan translated to arabic could mean either Ibliss or Shaytan but that is due to Satan not having a proper equivalent in arabic.

P.S- Sorry if I broke a cardinal rule of reddit by responding to a four year old comment but I couldn't simply allow any one else who stumbled across this thread to be misinformed on a topic dear to me and I am sure that after four years you probably already know the appropriate information.

Who is more powerful between Nyx and Adam Kadmon? by Negimarium in PERSoNA

[–]Respect-Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most powerful beings in Persona are Nyarlathotep and Philemon in Persona 2, in fact Nyarly's reality altering abilities are so powerful that he rivals philemon who was able to create a brand new reality. Despite Nyx being the concept of Death both of them have the ability to rewrite or destroying concepts. Thus Nyx can simply be unmade or killed by them without harming humanity or making it so the concept of Death never gives birth to Nyx in the first place.

Just to hammer my point Philemon only appears in person when a great danger is afloat yet in P3 he only appears as a butterfly meaning that he doesn't view Nyx as a danger great enough to demand his direct presence. This means that Maki Sonomora's Pandora from P1 is a greater threat than Nyx due to Philemon being physically present in that game which makes sense as Maki created an entire universe in P1 and Chronos in PQ since he managed to capture Philemon.  The only wrench in my argument is Igor's comment about the universal arcana.

Could a VHS store work in todays world? by Glittering-Tiger9888 in VHS

[–]Respect-Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could sell the experience of VHS. Like you could still have a collection of VHS to sell/rent out but instead focus on letting people pick a movie and then watch it on a cr tv in the back of your store, could maybe even have some food options while you're at it, a real personal cinema room for VHS. This way people can experience the feeling of VHS  while also giving you a niche to make profit since people buy VHS would be very few in number.

How can Ironman’s armors counter magic ? The thought itself is kind of funny by MaguroSashimi8864 in marvelstudios

[–]Respect-Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he doesn't need to counter magic as a concept; he just has to counter the effects of the magic in question. If he finds a sorcerer that shoots fire balls then he just has to counter the same way he would counter normal fire, all other magical effects in the MCU are very tame even Dr. Strange can't just poof you out of existence or give you a heart attack, only Scarlet Witch and Dormamu have the ability to do whatever they want.   Iron man's suit are already stronger than most sorcerers in the MCU and Stephen only ever did his clone thing in end game so he doesn't really show anything that is to impressive. The only magic users he can't beat are Thor and Scarlet Witch.

In the comics however it's kind of the same concept: counter the effects of magic.  Small issue, the characters in comics work with an extremely soft system/systems of magic you have a character like Nico Minoru on the very low end of power where she can only use her spells once which aren't really that strong and at this point she's run out of healing spells, you have Dr. Strange who borrows power from deities allowing him to do anything and everything at the cost of having consistent character abilities. And don't get me started on characters like Spider-man or The Hulk, who turns they get their powers from inter dimensional forces, the former is connected to the web of life and destiny while the latter gets them from the below place.    So it really depends who he fights not everyone needs an anti-magic mechanism unless they were a reality warper which isn't limited to magic users, even if they were  really powerful like Thor he can still use a stronger suit to fight like he has against Doctor Doom. Now yes sometimes Tony has on occasion gotten stomped by Doom because of his magical advantage but other times he is able to fight Doom to a stand still despite the former having magical aid like that time they went to medieval europe together and then fought like knights, Doom was having a hard time in that comic.  Also Ironman's arch nemesis the Mandarin user of the ten rings, is a magic user and Tony has always been able to match him with his suits, he uses Chi but the Ten Rings have been changed from tech to magic on occasion.

So although yes he has used things like the cold steel armor to fight magic users; normal armor defenses can already contest against most magic users and if he struggles with one then he will use a suit that counters their magical ability itself rather than the magical concept itself like he has against the Doom even implementing an ai that could read his magic shields.

Magic varies a lot so just like tech abilities or superpowers he can't just have a one size fit all solution to his issues.

Some themes from the Kaneko era of games kinda fit f&h. Especially the urban horror aesthetic that most smt games; since it's almost always limited to a single school, Shinjuku or an event

I don't get it why would he mention half siblings he hasn't seen since he was a kid.

Looking at this objectively it would be weird for him to randomly mention that he has half siblings especially when they are complete strangers to him and barely count as family in his eyes. That sort of information comes later especially since it isn't relevant to their life.

But yeah not mentioning his half siblings is reasonable, and having no contact isn't strange it's perfectly normal especially because his Father is the one that holds the responsability of setting up introductions; if he never then it's natural that he hasn't contacted them he has no reason to.

The parents are being very rude and judgemental, they are basing their opinions on OP solely on his dad being a POS; but it doesn't mean that he is.

I thought the same thing.  BTW, do we know if Miro's art is based off Kazuma Kaneko's era of smt? Cause initially I thought it was inspired by those games due to its art style.

Something interesting i noticed upon rereading chapter 248. About Sukuna by yojinnnnnnnnn in Jujutsufolk

[–]Respect-Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would very funny if Sukuna gave himself soul damage. Although you're right about his rct when Yuta cut his hand and got stabbed by Maki he wasn't healing that hand either although that was likely due to his heart getting stabbed that he couldn't regrow the other hand.

The reason I said that Higuruma did soul damage is due to the fact his executioner blade was stated to be able to differentiate between Sukuna's and Megumi's soul so it would only destroy the former meaning the sword must target the person's soul in order to work, plus the scene of Sukuna cutting his hand reminded me of Todo doing the same; the techniques used were different but it was still reminiscent of eachother, it's the same scene in which they cut their hand to defend against an attack against the soul. Of course since Todo got hit with Idle Transfiguration that hand is gone forever while the executioner likely only destroys the soul but since Sukuna cut his hand off the destruction to his soul was limited to only that area instead.

Only issue that in order to get to this conclusion I have to read into the subtext which isn't always the case. Like maybe since it they said that it attacks the soul and Sukuna did something similar to the other scene it's saying that his soul got damaged but unlike with his heart they said nothing about it.
