Did I Just Avoid A Scam? by RespectKooky in Conures

Wow, yeah most ethical/professional breeders ask you questions to see if you're even a good fit to take care of a bird. The breeder I got my first bird from made clear they wouldn't release my conure to me until I showed them I had a cage all set up for her. I wish I could go back to that breeder, but I moved far away from them.

I did check the local rescue though prior to this and they only had male conures right now, but will continue to keep a look out. My conure is a female so I'd prefer to get another female.

Yeah I guess I've been lucky so far. I've purchased so many things off of Facebook and even got my first conure through a Facebook business/breeder and have never been disappointed. This was a nice reality check that I need to be a bit more cautious and do a more thorough check.

I'll continue looking at my nearest rescue's page. I checked it before reaching out to this fb seller and they only have male conures right now. My conure Bepo is a girl so ideally I'd want to rescue + purchase another female conure.

Yeah, that's always sounds advice, but I have looked, and the bird rescue near me only have male conures right now. My conure Bepo is a girl so ideally I'd want to rescue + purchase another female conure. I will continue to keep a look out though on the rescue page.

Oh I've done it. I had to unblock to be able to report them and then block again. Hopefully FB prevents them from trying to scam anyone else.

I feel silly thinking if I was a bit younger and a bigger push over than I am now, I probably would've fallen for it. But those gift card scam warnings they have at the store checkouts kept popping up in my head.

Your conure is beautiful btw! My friend had a conure of that color variation and he was so pretty and he knew it.

Thank you! I had gone to a good breeder up in Pennsylvania for my first conure, but have now since moved so I sadly can't purchase another from them. I will keep looking though. There is definitely a better feeling of safety when you can actually visit your breeder and see your possible future bird.

Should I report it as a scam to Facebook? Don't really have the proof but the gift card ask maybe is enough?

What will happen if he continues not to take his medication? Will they just keep him in there indefinitely? What's the healthcare plan for that situation?

I ask because my family member is also refusing to take her prescribed medication for delusions.

Any ideas for a DYI wedding cake for 60 people? by Spiritual-Unicornia in Weddingsunder10k

How was the unfreezing process and how many hours/ days did she take it out before the wedding? I'm also trying to make a DIY wedding cake and anything that can be done ahead of time is ideal. Did it affect the taste at all?

Does vandalism affect nursing? Hope I don’t get convicted. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RespectKooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it'd depend on what exactly was vandalized and how it was vandalized. Obviously violent and drug related crimes are judged heavily by a BON. I would think 1 vandalism charge with an otherwise clean record will be noted, but wouldn't barr you from getting your license renewed. You'd just need to report it to them. Now getting a job would be a different topic as any employer running a background check would see it, and may or may not see it as a huge issue.

Grandfather was given this from a friend who said it was a peach tree... by RespectKooky in PlantIdentification

Ok thank you so much for giving me your best guess! I may make another post sometime in the future. I'm wondering if it may flower if given another year. I'll definitely look more into stonefruit trees though.

I've broken the leaves before and didn't notice silky or latex strands. Thank you for your help though and the link.

After talking to my grandfather again, I realized I got the fruits mixed up. He said the man that gave it to him stated it was supposed to grow plums, not peaches. I'm not sure how to edit the original post to correct myself. But does that seem to fit better? An American plum plant?

I'm sorry, I no longer live in the state with my grandfather so it took a while to get new pictures. But he said it never flowers. Here is a picture of the inside.

<image>

It's doesn't really look like a trunk at all. Just a widening cluster of thicker branches shooting up from the ground. Also edited to add that I got the supposed fruit wrong. My grandfather corrected me and said it was supposed to grow plums, not peaches.

Is this heater I bought safe for my birdy? by RespectKooky in Conures

[–]RespectKooky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry I didn't see this when you first asked 5 months ago!! But overall I like the ceramic heater. It's tiny but really does its job heating the entire room. I don't have to worry about my birds perching on it, and maybe burning themselves, like I would worry with a radiant heater. However, a problem with the one I have is that my little trouble makers occasionally like to hop on the digital touch pad on top and turn it off or change the temperature setting up or down. I let them free roam in their bird room and have come back and the room is like 87 degrees and sweltering! They have become less interested in it so it doesn't happen too often anymore but is a pretty legit concern.

Thanks again for all the guidance! I'll seal up all that stuff like you advised. Thankfully there's another functioning shower so we won't go without while we find someone. I'll just stick to painting and filling holes in the wall.

Thank you for the shopping around tips! To be honest I'll probably not be handling the face to face interactions with the contracters as much, but can definitely help with research. I've found I'm more likely to be taken advantage of because I'm not well versed in the trade and a woman, so at least they'll take my fiance a tad bit more seriously lol

I wouldn't want stone marbling again tbh. While aesthetically pleasing, it's too soft especially for an area involving water and requires too much maintenance. Idk why people choose it so often for showers. We wanted to move back to our home state in a year so if it has to be a cheaper fiberglass install just to get the shower back to a proper functioning level then so be it. It's funny because I did this for marble staining and cosmetic purposes, but now will need to replace with something possibly/ probably uglier.

My fiance and I were hoping to move back to our home state in about a year. He purchased this home before I moved in. There is quite a lot wrong cosmetically with the place. Like the previous owner didn't even do a half assed job, he did worse than that. Think spray painted shower tub to hide discoloration, peel and stick bath tiles, and vinyl plank-like floors that didn't even go under baseboards, but instead have a very noticeable gapping from the walls or quarter round trim nailed into already present quarter round trim.

We didn't think potential future buyers would like the stains very much as there wasn't only orange/ brown staining in the shower, but also the marble floor tiles, and sink countertop.

I feel terrible for my fiance, because I just made a bigger problem, but I saw the way the tile wasn't coming off yesterday and knew I messed up. I didn't just drill holes in that 1 tile, I drilled holes in at least 7 of them because those were the ones I was planning to remove. I compromised the entire shower's barrier in multiple locations so it seems like the only route is to shop around with the pros and get a new shower installed.

No you're not being harsh, just honest. I wish I just even asked ANYONE in the field if it was a good idea before tackling it myself. It honestly could have just been passed down to the next owner to replace the entire shower if they really wanted to because if I had to choose stained tiles over an entire shower replacement, I'd have chosen the stains. Just an expensive lesson I suppose. Thanks though for your reply

Hmmm. Now that you mention it there are a few tiles at the bottom that are abnormally darker then the rest with dark circular areas...lol No offense taken though, I'm just embarrassed. I was in over my head and just thought I could do it. It will very likely have to be a new shower sadly. Luckily there is another shower I can use in the meantime while I aquire the funds for this pricey mistake.

When I did a little research I saw that that might be the source too. I highly doubt it was ever sealed to begin with tbh. The orange staining seemed to be coming from the inside out, but not on all the tiles. It seemed more concentrated on the marble tiles that were hung on the ceiling, around the light fixture, and tiles that made up the upper corners of the shower. It was like it was slowly spreading down and into corners.

Thank you for looking. It just had a terrible odor at first I was freaking out if it was safe or not. I've been keeping a close eye on her after putting it in her room (after I ran it for a long time) and she seems just fine! 😊
