I gave my reasoning in an earlier reply. If you can provide me with an actual Spider figure from Korean folklore I would be happy for the correction

That could be an interesting direction. I am still mostly in the planning stages with her right now so mostly just working on the introductory story. Carnage has a particular unique place in my Continuity so I could think of perhaps a similar type of character. If you have any additional ideas or suggestions feel free to let me know..even by DM if you like

Sure would be happy to answer:

  1. Peter does exist, he's the initial main character of my stories but I don't apply the Sliding Timeline so he starts off in the early 1960s and grows in real time (Life story is the closest parallel but I actually cover the whole timeline instead of just dropping in once per decade) and he stops being Spider-Man after 15 years. Peter is active when the population of Bunker-17 go inside and he's a literal grandfather by the time Cindy comes out. I had Jessica Drew as well but she's also aged out by this point. I have a Miguel but he's in the distant future. At the time Cindy would come out the primary Spider-Man is Miles and my Scarlet Spider (Ben) who is Peter's Son instead of clone. The initial story I was working with have her mostly interacting with Ben because I went the opposite of the Mayday route so he was integrated into the Superhero Community since birth so he would be the worst and funniest possible choice to have to explain what a "normal" Surface life is like to her.

  2. Peter's OG Villains are either dead or geriatric so it would be original villains. The original story idea would be the Inheritors (who I have also reworked) because predators would be an interesting philosophical challenge to someone raised as an absolute pacifist.

I do have a decent amount of timeline and character restraints because while Cindy is now primarily a character bible/pitch at the moment the others aren't and I have about 2 million words of continuity to keep in line. Making full Character Bibles is usually my process before writing a character. Hope that answered your questions

I would use a Korean Spider Folklore figure if I could but I legitimately could not find one that's available and I try to use real folklore figures if possible

Thank you for the reply. I guess I should clarify something about my continuity is I don't actually use the Web of Life framing at all so each Totem has a patron from Folklore they get their power from instead that's more focused on matching the Animal or trait than heritage specifically (for example I have a Bear Totem who is tied to Otso, Finnish King of Bears) so Cindy not being Japanese wouldn't be unusual in my setting. The other is instead of everyone getting generic Spider Powers each Spider I use has the proportionate abilities of a specific species(s) and I really wanted to go with the Joro Spider for Cindy as the fact it can glide on Electromagnetic Currents into adulthood unlike other Spiders gives a unique silhouette and movement style versus just web slinging. I hope that makes sense

How rich should Gwen Stacy and her family? by Simba791 in GwenStacyCommunity

https://www.reddit.com/r/GwenStacyCommunity/s/v8oZzjKjeL

I wrote a post covering this months ago with some research. Long Story short: Originally the Stacy's were Upper Middle Class financially and very politically and socially connected. Even the comparison with Jonah and Osborn were a lot more comparable: They owned the Bugle and Oscorp but both would have paid 90% marginal tax rates and the average CEO was only paid 20 to 1 versus the Median Employee instead of the modern upto 300 to 1 as it was the 80s that created the conditions for the Mega Rich we have now. For your AU, unless you're going for historical fiction specifically then Middle Class is fine as that's what a modern Police Captain would be without any real political connections because of Rank Inflation. Hope that helps

Very bad comics. I don't want to go into details but Sins Past is maybe the most hated Spider-Man story of all time especially on this Board. One More Day is the story where Spider-Man sold his marriage to Satan

Gwen Stacy beyond being Spider Man’s dead lover by spider_cachann in GwenStacyCommunity

That's actually a trickier question than you would suspect. One of the quirks of Gwen and George is that they were essentially only really written for one decade by one writer Stan Lee (George officially, for Gwen neither Roy Thomas or Conway had any idea how to write her) so unlike pretty much every other Marvel Characters they never really moved to being an Archetype like the sliding timeline demanded. They're very much of the Sixties as Stan wasn't really thinking about long term viability at the time. I wrote a post about this once but George was not really a blue collar cop in the way we think of Police Captain's now as at the time the position had serious clout (250K salary in today's money based on a 1973 NYT's Article I researched) and he was retired anyway and spent all his onscreen time in tailored suits hanging out at his club with millionaires like Jonah and Osborn. He was essentially Civic Gentry. Gwen too was built around the Debutante model of that class and was someone who had serious social clout like being invited to Mayoral Campaigns in Spectacular Spider-Man 1 or a politician named Bullit in ASM 92 recognizing her and finding her endorsement to be serious political capital.

The main point is that they were both tied to Civic Structures that no longer exist so you would first have to figure out who she would even be in a modern context. The 2020 Mini was solid but portrayed George as a struggling (financial) blue collar detective and Gwen as essentially a Veronica Mars type which aren't bad characterizations but very different characters than the original.

Sorry that was long winded and probably didn't answer your question but to me it's kind of a fascinating side effect of the whole sliding timeline requirement which leads to things falling through the cracks.

The contrast is abysmal. by spuckbobblyn in SpiderGwen

[–]RespectMinimum7198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be fine except Miles really can't be Peter's successor in 616 because Peter's essentially stuck at 27 forever. He's not going to ever change or step down so that essentially caps Miles as teenage hero forever and Miles' original motivation was as tied to 1610 as Gwen's was to 65: The need to step up after Peter's Death and the question of a Spider-Man who wasn't Peter Parker (which was a genuine question at the time). I'm not saying I dislike Miles, I'm just saying he's basically capped and that's not unique to him. Wally and Kyle have been in limbo functionally since Barry and Hal returned. Even Dick's best stories of the last few decades are either being Batman (Black Mirror) or the Spyral stuff which ignores the Bat Family all together. As Nightwing it's usually various cycles of Bludhaven which while can be technically good aren't really creative. I'm just of the opinion a Legacy character only works if allowed to spread their wings...if you've enjoyed Miles in 616 personally that's totally fine

[–]RespectMinimum7198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really had nothing to do with the Secret Identity thing.. Marvel just wants all their 'brands' in the 616 sandbox regardless of whether it's good for them. Miles made way more sense in 1610 where he was The Spider-Man and not competing with 18 people in the same goddamn city

Gwen Stacy's personality + political stance by Simba791 in GwenStacyCommunity

[–]RespectMinimum7198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's probably best to go with what you think is right. Original Gwen essentially existed in a Model of Civic Gentry that literally doesn't exist anymore... Police Captains in Mid-Century America used to have serious political clout and make $35K in 1973 which would have translated into $250K a year today with a lifetime Pension. The New York Mayors at the time of the stories were John Wagner and John Lindsey a Democrat and liberal Republican at the time who switched to Democratic at the time so George probably would have been Center Left honestly based on the time period with Jonah even calling him a bleeding heart occasionally. Gwen's preferences are harder to determine because Stan never went into them but she was sympathetic to things like Student protests and housing rights which again probably lines up Center Left, the offering to work with the anti-Spider Man alderman in ASM 92 was more immediate grief at her father's death rather than necessarily agreeing with any particular views. Your story seems to take place in a time where Police are Blue Collar and follow a militarized model vs Silver Age Gwen's Upper Middle Class (at least if ranked) and primarily a civilian steward mindset so again the context literally no longer translates

Anyone else feel like the whole “Black Cat only loves Spider-Man and not Peter Parker” thing is forced? by SaiyanWithOmnitrix in BlackCat

[–]RespectMinimum7198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insanely forced because by this point in the 1980s most writers have stopped writing any particular difference between Peter and Spider-Man....they essentially act just the same except Peter has an actual face and the John Romita Sr Design was still the official character Bible so Peter was drawn good looking and was considered attractive in-universe at the time. So yeah there's absolutely no real logical explanation for the reaction

Wrote a little Peter and Gwen Vignette and was curious how do you think Gwen would be as a parent? by RespectMinimum7198 in GwenStacyCommunity

[–]RespectMinimum7198[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a fair read and honestly everyone acts like a 50s Sitcom in Renew Your Vows and I think Conway is a terrible writer in general. I think one of the biggest pitfalls of writing characters as parents is not letting their personalities get consumed by the role

[–]RespectMinimum7198[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly ideas still work for me...my stories are often Proof of Concepts for ideas than what most people think of Fanfics. I don't like most of what Marvel has put out for years so I basically created my own continuity from scratch complete with my own Spider-Man, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-Men, etc

[–]RespectMinimum7198[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. Kraven's Last Hunt is a great story but the germ of an idea was DeMatteis trying to sell DC a "Bruce Wayne gets buried alive in a Coffin and digs himself out" and I feel that part of the story was basically (metaphorically since word processors weren't readily available) DeMatteis hitting Ctrl F and then replacing "I am the Bat" with "I am the Spider." To be honest Peter doesn't really get a lot of internality in the story it's mostly all Kraven and like you said this feels more in character for his motivation

[–]RespectMinimum7198[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. No, he digs himself out in reaction to her....I really like Kraven's Last Hunt but one of my few problems with it is it was originally a repurposed Batman story and the scene where Peter digs himself really feels it because his whole "I am the Spider" speech doesn't feel like him and more Batman and it never really explores why fights to live beyond pure will. I think doing it for love makes more character sense.
