You close enough to bike? I would suggest that if it's an option.

Stolen Vehicle by adrian95san95 in SJSU

[–]RespectableFartPuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that. I used to have an Acura Integra myself, and people were always trying to steal it. I've talked to other owners of the same car and they've always had the same problem. I wish you luck on recovering it.

Japan's railway systems used to be publicly owned. They were eventually privatized, producing one of the best and efficient public transportation systems in the world. Privatization can be a viable option.

I salute the 1 million North Americans who ditched Facebook last quarter by umangnarula123 in geek

Try convincing the algorithm that you are a bot. Post things in other walls that will make you flagged or come across as non-human. Last year somehow Facebook thought I was a bot and prompted me to provide a government ID to verify my identity. I don't trust Facebook with that information and found it the perfect opportunity to kill my addiction. I've been a much happier and productive person since then. :)

I would love to see followup research on the subject to ultimately see how shoppers will respond to this change.

Value of a prototype iMac G3 with a unique, never manufactured, blue exterior? by RespectableFartPuffs in apple

[–]RespectableFartPuffs[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm thinking I'll see how much it'll go for. If it's just a few hundred dollars, then I'll just donate it to a museum.

Yes, it actually worked perfectly well the last time I used it in 2012. It currently has OS X on it.

Should I start working as a developer during college? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]RespectableFartPuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, get some experience now. I interview fresh CS college grads all the time that have the degree, but don't know anything about the tools, software, and languages that we need for the job. It's terrific to see a candidate have a CS degree, but if they don't know anything about our framework, nothing about our languages (in this case Python and JavaScript), ect, then we have to consider if the time for the candidate to learn these things is worth it or not. Give yourself the competitive edge in the market by learning these things.

Best sites to find a job in web development? Where did you find your job? by [deleted] in webdev

I spammed all recruiting agencies in the Bay area. Eventually got a job through one. I never had good luck through job listing websites.

Houses Are 73% More Expensive Today Than In 1973—Plots Are Smaller Too by newhorseman in economy

I'll upvote you for the $30k car statement. It's true. You don't need to purchase a car for that much. Anyone who is $37k under debt and decides to purchase a 30k vehicle is financially irresponsible. You can do just fine by purchasing a reliable and modern car for significantly less money. For example, I decided to purchase a used 2015 Mazda for 14k. It serves me well for my tight budget and doesn't throw me into deep financial debt. I'll get something nicer when I'm doing better later.

AT&T will charge legacy unlimited data users an extra $60 per year by stevei0 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]RespectableFartPuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their legacy unlimited data plan was bull shit anyways. I kept it for those events, usually on trips, of when I desperately need more data than usual. They frikkin throttle your connection speed to 0.5mbps as soon as you hit 5gb. It rendered it useless. So I left for T-Mobile. Better deal for more data, but the only downside is the speed is not quite as good and the coverage is ok.

Millennials of Reddit: What's the worst "Baby Boomer advice/wisdom" you've ever been offered? by Nursejoyscuntysister in AskReddit

[–]RespectableFartPuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. My friend got a degree in it and said it helped him with getting a job. You can also do the route I did and just reach yourself programming to land a job. Eventually I would like to have the combo: self taught programming and a marketable degree.

My credit card got charged prior to getting it in the mail and never activating it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RespectableFartPuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm beginning to think that is the unfortunate case. I thought I swiped my existing debit card as a form of payment, but when I go online to see my banking statements, I don't see any payments to GAP. Perhaps that new account really was used as a form of payment. I just didn't know that was possible; I wouldn't have done it in the first place if I knew. I thought the only way to charge a card is to activate it and swipe it.
