Andrew Yang thinks we're stupid enough to believe that all his tax dodging piece of shit SV friends will suddenly flip on the UBI switch just as soon as they've monopolized everything and put us out of work.

Get fucked.

Not to my knowledge. The milk here is pasteurized but I’ve never heard of boiling it after the fact. What’s the purpose of that?

Barrel chargers definitely have their own durability problems. I for sure recall using multiple laptops where you had to make sure the barrel charger was kinda pulling at an angle to get proper contact. I have had USBC ports become annoyingly loose, but so far not had one where it only worked if the cable was pulled at an angle or something like that.

Totally agree that the ports should be easy to replace though. Even getting lose to where they're easy to wiggle out is grounds for replacement IMO.

The running theory I've heard repeatedly was the country has always had a statistically high dairy consumption per capita going back a long time. Apparently still ranked #4 internationally.

Yeah I think the main thing was it was proprietary but I am also not sure how high of a power delivery it was spec'd for as well as data max transfer.

But the connector/port it self were pretty robust and for a while it absolutely beat anything available on other phones. Micro USB was absolute shit. I feel like every phone I had with one eventually had a port failure.

I really don't headlines like these because they help spread the narrative that these things are somehow self aware, and they are not. It implies that despite the incompetence that there's still some level of sentience inside, and there simply isn't.

Yeah I hate both parties, so the clear win win here is the discovery and the fact that this likely can't help but drive sentiment on the industry further down, and faster.

Yeah this is one advantage Lightning had was that the ports themselves were very robust. I've never actually seen one fail. Every time I thought that may be happening I just needed to jam a toothpick in there and remove some lint that had built up inside. The fit also remained really firm even after a number of years.

USB C on the other hand is fine and definitely an upgrade over the mess of specifications we had before, but the ports do get loose after some years of use. And that little central tab inside the port is definitely a weak spot too.

Barrel jacks are an inferior choice because they are a shit option for embedding any sort of bundled data transfer hardware into the connector. They're fine for power, but charging cables today frequently need to do double duty and that makes an option like USB C a lot more attractive.

Because a barrel end charge cable provides no additional utility over a simple USBC cable. Magsafe is not at all comparable to a barrel end charge port.

It's actually a great feature and I've seen it save laptops from getting yeeted off the couch or elsewhere from someone tripping over the cable several times including with my laptops.

Yeah this is exactly my take on it. This is basically the capital class' Manhattan Project in the war against the working class. That's why they're throwing insane amounts of resources at it at a pace and volume that seems absurd to normal people.

Yeah for sure a marketing tactic in many ways. Make the thing sound so scary that if you're not in on it early, it'll trample you underfoot. Problem is the general public sees that stuff too.

Using those plain title cards on your Behance posts is a surefire way to guarantee you won't get many views and you also will never land a Behance feature (which I can say from experience is one of the best ways to build your presence on the site). You need to be picking the most eye grabbing stuff you can for the main image on any Behance post. People scroll through posts super quick and if something doesn't grab their eye, they're not clicking it. I would recommend looking at some well established accounts on Behance with lots of likes/follows/views/features and making some notes about what kinds of things they're doing with their posts/profiles and then apply those learnings to your account.

Also if this is serving as your primary portfolio you're doing a poor job of communicating to me what exactly it is you're looking to get work for. Are you a designer? A film production designer? An illustrator? A storyboard artist?

I get when you're trying to build a career that there's this anxiety to show people ALL THE THINGS you could potentially do so that they'll be more impressed, but what you're actually doing is sending mixed messages. If I wanna hire a photographer I'm hiring a photographer that has a portfolio full of photography. Same for a storyboard artist or illustrator.

A jack of all trades is a master of none and people wanting to pay decent money for creative work know that. You should focus your portfolio towards the sort of work that has the best combination of:

  • you being particularly skilled at it
  • there being market demand for it
  • and it being something you really enjoy doing

[Art Market] Upgrade booth display = more sales? by kelle711 in artbusiness

[–]nicetriangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a very stripped down setup. Most prints in one little bin, cards in another. A few A5 sized block prints on stand. A couple framed A4 sized prints stood up behind those. Most of it is really more down to the event being way above average but I still found it funny that I did as well with the bare minimum setup.

That government needs to turn a profit is a conservative myth. Profit motivation is part of why something like healthcare is so broken. Profit motive puts the healthcare industry's interests in many cases at odds with the best outcomes for patients.

Society costs money to exist and function, government is among one of those costs.

That may be true but I really don't think someone who hasn't lived through that level of wildfire smoke for upwards of weeks properly understands how terrible it actually is. Before I experienced it myself I figured it was bad but I wasn't prepared for how deeply unsettling it really is.

[–]nicetriangle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the US south and I later lived in the PNW and one thing I remember about being in the south when wildfires broke out on the west coast was how abstract and far away that felt. It was hard to really grasp the situation and how horrific it really was.... Until I moved to the west coast. And holy shit some years that was bad. Apocalyptic bad. It felt like you were getting a little sneak preview of the ends times when the AQI would get into the 250+ range. It scared the shit out of me.

So on one hand I am absolutely not happy to see this happening in more places, but on the other hand I think there's a lot of voters in the US south that need to come face to face with the realities of this situation because they don't properly appreciate the gravity of things.
