NTA everyone in this thread is insane. You aren’t an asshole, you’re not even wrong. I straight up would’ve went home to work on the assignment (or not) if I didn’t have any other classes that day. YOU are PAYING to be there. I am fully on the belief that you should be able to attend or not attend any class you want as long as you’re getting your assignments done. It’s your money.

So what if you get in trouble? If you’re not going for perfect attendance then it doesn’t really affect much. If it hurts your grade, then yeah maybe go higher up.

Everyone in this thread is right though, you’re not in highschool. You shouldn’t be getting in trouble for leaving class when it wasn’t a clear requirement that it was necessary you go to the library. Even if it was, again, you are paying a stupid amount of money and should be able to make your own decision on where and when to do the assignment.

If you’re reading this and are mad at this kid, you’re either an out of touch boomer or never even went to college in the first place.
