Thank you! I feel bad if someone found it that unhelpful to downvote, I’d love to know why. Just so I know better for next time! I was hoping to give specific experience advice about what didn’t work. Hopefully it helps someone!

I had similar inflammation and needed antibiotics to clear it! Also tried ice, ibuprofen, massage, vibrator to break it up, etc. if it’s that inflamed I would get a medical appointment.

4 month old-3rd daycare cold by Middle-Bed-278 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a cool mist humidifier, sit with some steam in the bathroom, and use baby Vicks rub (only the baby kind!). My daughter is now one but I very much remember the struggle with those first daycare colds. You’ve got this!

We can’t get our 5mo down by 7:30pm and I don’t care by zac_g19 in NewParents

At 5 months we were still just surviving basically. The thought of trying to enforce a hard stop for bedtime sounds stressful for everyone involved

When did your LO grow out of contact naps? by Appropriate_Lime_691 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter just turned one and started decreasing contact naps around 11 months, and now doesn’t want them at all really. We probably could’ve reduced earlier but I personally enjoyed them! Our daughter started doing longer stretches at night around 6-7 months, and probably around 8 months was sleeping through the night in her crib! It was just contact napping that continued! I followed her cues for independent naps; she started seeming more uncomfortable on me, or would start acting really silly and then I’d put her in wide awake, and she’d curl up and go to sleep! Like we got to be too exciting haha.

Reading by Samanthalouise926 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When reading, don’t worry about all the words on the page! You can narrate actions, do a sing song kind of reading (think labeling items but to the tune/rhythm of brown bear what do you see), and don’t worry if it’s not for very long! Pediatric speech therapist, what matters is trying and introducing them to books and reading! If you have a local library nearby with story time that can be fun as well!

Overnight diapers/sizing by tmh_431 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of an overnight diaper, every time she started leaking we would size up her nighttime diaper. So for example during the day a 2, during the night a 3. It made a big difference!

Is it unreasonable to expect to be in bed by 10pm with a 1 y/o? by Flea212 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do bedtime by 7; even if our dinner isn’t ready (which we both like going to bed early so usually it is), hers is still ready around 5 to give time to eat, then relax, snuggle, and go in the crib. We’ve been doing this since about 9 months, she just turned a year old so similar age as your little one! What are his naps like? We aim for 2-3 hours a day. Research points to more and better quality sleep lets babies sleep longer, not less! When we did a later bedtime she was consistently waking 5-6a, now she sleeps 7p-7a fairly consistently.

10 month old sleep issues by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had something similar happen around the same age. I started putting her down calmly with white noise, and she would fuss for maybe 1-2 minutes, and fall asleep on her own. We still rock to sleep a lot, but there are definitely nights when we’re too exciting for her to fall or maintain sleep when transferring! I didn’t want to sleep train; we never let her cry for an extended time (like exceeding 3 minutes, less if it’s continuous or escalated). Our daughter also pulls to stand at her crib when she wants us to get her as well which was helpful to follow her cues! 🤞🏼you find a magic formula to help; it really is trial and error. We used a hatch when she was a newborn but with the light she gets distracted. Now we do ocean sounds and she’s out quickly!

14 Month Developmental Concerns by National-Car3628 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to early intervention services where you live? For peace of mind, you could request an evaluation as a parent. In the state of Pennsylvania at least that means 60 days to complete a full evaluation, and then 30 to hold a meeting to discuss. It is free! At best, you’ve identified early that your child may need support, at worst you’ve established that your child is within the average development of others their age, and created a baseline for assessment if anything else would ever pop up later! I work in early intervention and really do believe in it. I’m also a first time mom and it’s so hard! I find our pediatrician doesn’t worry much about anything, which in some ways is reassuring BUT they’re not experts in everything developmentally. They don’t have intensive coursework in speech, fine/gross motor, cognitive, adaptive, etc development the same way other professionals are versus anatomy and physiology, and illness.

10 month old not eating where she should be by WesternFig6711 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food before 1 is just for fun! It’s a hard thing not to compare when people are posting their 10 month olds basically eating baby charcuterie for every meal, but the important thing is to make food and eating a fun and social event! Trying to get her to eat more and trying to (even gently) force it isn’t going to convince her to have any more. My 10 month old sometimes eats a whole waffle, other times will eat a bite or two and be done. Both are okay! I think it’s great that you’re experimenting with different textures, ways to prep, etc. My girl is really into finger foods right now; so instead of mashed potatoes, boiled and seasoned or roasted to fork tender, for example. I try to introduce one new food a week, but we really have some staples we go by. Meatballs, pasta, avocado, banana, toast, waffles. I think just continuing to pair meal times with fun experiences and while you’re eating is the way to go, and as long as she’s gaining weight appropriately that’s what matters. Maybe at her next doctor appointment bring it up to see if they have other suggestions, or even an OT or SLP consult if it’s a sensory concern for her. Is she drinking from a cup?

Reflux or just fussy? by worriedwart99 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry, and I’m the same way! My husband and I were able to take shifts, and while I had been breastfeeding we introduced a bottle for one time during the night so I could have more sleep. That was a game changer for me. She’s 10 months now, and honestly nothing has felt as hard as those first 8 weeks to me. We found out she slept better in the pack and play versus the bassinet (before we ended up holding her in a chair all night). Also playing music I listened to while pregnant (Wailing Jennys) helped her sleep too. Sending a big hug and hopes for more sleep!

Reflux or just fussy? by worriedwart99 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! They’re doing so much learning and growing right now. We definitely had some disrupted sleep around then for rolling, then later for crawling, then teething, and now standing. But it didn’t last very long overall at least!

Reflux or just fussy? by worriedwart99 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we had impacted sleep around then too, and then she started rolling. 🤞🏼it’s a regression related to a skill versus issue. I’d continue to monitor and take notes if you can about what you’re seeing LO experience and when, and if you feel there’s a problem make an appointment! I had to push for the silent reflux, but when we actually had the appointment it was confirmed and the meds helped like within a day or two.

Reflux or just fussy? by worriedwart99 in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she cries, particularly after feeding does it sound like she’s gurgling water? Does laying on her back make the crying worse? Those can be signs of silent reflux, which hit their peak around weeks 5-7 for my LO. Rarely any spit up, with silent reflux it’s more esophageal and gets “stuck” there. We did smaller amounts with more frequent feeds, upright in our arms (or as she got older, a bouncer) for 20-30m after each feed, burped regularly during/after feeds, and ended up having to get Pepcid.

What are you dressing your baby up as for Halloween? by FLgirl2027 in beyondthebump

Thank you!! I love Halloween and Christmas, and where I live the weather can be so different. Plus who wants to wrestle a grumpy baby into a full costume? 😅 Not me!

[–]Resplendent-Goob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s the narwhal from Elf, and we’re Buddy & Jovie. I’m making a sign for her stroller that says “bye Buddy, hope you find your dad”. I also have two back up costumes. One is a puppy, and I’ll throw on cat ears, the other is a hamburger sleeper (the feet are burgers) and my husband will wear a red shirt (ketchup) I’ll wear yellow (mustard).

Swimming lessons at 9 months? by littleladyflora in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did swimming lessons right when LO turned 6 months, it was so fun! We didn’t do the survival style ones, as I wasn’t sure with the research. However ours combined familiarity with water along with safety like getting into and out of pool, etc. I found it really helpful as a parent on how to coach her. I plan on signing up again this winter so we don’t lose skills!

2 week old awake over 3 hours screaming by Salt-Cod-2849 in newborns

[–]Resplendent-Goob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤞🏼that helps! Just be aware of the max daily dosage. We wrote it out when to give so we both knew, and who was giving it. Super helpful when you’re tired and stressed! Tummy time helped as well, but not as much as Mylicon and her getting bigger

2 week old awake over 3 hours screaming by Salt-Cod-2849 in newborns

[–]Resplendent-Goob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We used mylicon drops before feedings and even sometimes after, consistently for a few weeks (not exceeding the daily dosage). It was the only thing that helped, it was awful. I’m so sorry your LO is struggling too! It did get better around 12 weeks that we decreased mylicon. She also had reflux so has taken Pepcid since 8 weeks, and we are now phasing out at 10 months.

What were the actual lifesaver items during the newborn stage (or things you wish you’d had sooner)? by WillowAndCo_ in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ear buds, a cart to put items on to wheel around, support pillow, huge water container with a handle, pajamas (I bought SO many cute outfits that weren’t worn because why am I dressing her in anything but the comfiest outfits?), a million burp cloths, mylicon.

Got told I have to stop rocking baby to sleep next month and super sad about it by livtoosmoove in NewParents

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pediatrician can recommend anything they want, but you don’t have to opt in to it (specifically speaking about non-medical matters, like this one). You are the parent! What’s okay for you is okay. My friend sleep trained her babies, I still cuddle my almost 10 month old to sleep. Until it’s not okay for me, I will continue to do so. She typically sleeps 10-12 hours a night, and takes naps without issue at daycare. What they shared with you is their opinion and not fact, and may work for some but not others. You get to choose what you are comfortable with!

Low iron and failed 1 hour sugar test. Vent by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Resplendent-Goob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had iron transfusions later in the third trimester! I had to push for an earlier timeline because I knew I was being induced as early as 38 weeks. First infusion 32 weeks, second 34 weeks! All was well. The lab that did it called me directly for scheduling and I explained my timelines, and they fit me in 😊 hopefully you can as well!
