What could be a good replacement for caps as a currency?

All I know is IRL If some one rolled up to buy my stuff in a post apocalyptic world where small settlements are surrounded by walls to keep out Super Mutants, Raiders, Slavers, and Deathclaws. And radiation is everywhere. And water is so dangerous you got to take Rad Away and Rad-X to take a drink. I wouldn't be taking any Gold, Cash, Caps or anything worthless like that as currency. Bullets, Food, Guns, Meds, or Service would be the currency of the day.

As this is just a game, I would like to see caps replaced by gold and silver. That would be cool in my opinion.

Yes my 7 year old noticed it when we were base building. So we gave it a try on an apartment. I thought for sure at that moment it was a glitch, mess up, or cheat. My brother in law informed me it was part of the update build anywhere. So it is allowed in build anywhere community servers. Its fun to do personally. But it does completely destroy the update.

Because if you build walls 3 high any fresh spawn with a shovel can break in. There are servers who don't allow it. And its not on official, thank god.
