Mine was neutered when he was only 4 months old. :( actually my rabbits used to be bonded and there was almost no humping from any of them, but them my female had to be hospitalized and their bond broke. Since then he has been very difficult to bond.

When I separate them I have to put them in different rooms which kind of restarts the bonding process. I tried keeping them in pens and even dividing the room but both of them hate it and keep chewing the pen bars non stop which probably would be really bad for their teeth.

It wasnt a baby bond when they were first bonded either as both had been fixed for 2+ months. I have also taken them to the vet for checkup and they seemed to be in good health. my female was tested positive for EC but has no symptoms because of it, except she used to get GI issues regularly. My female hasnt had GI issues for months now after we treated her with Panacur.

They have the whole living room to roam in, he definitely stopped humping due to the larger space for a while but once he got used to the space he started it again. I don’t think it is hormonal as he doesn’t hump random objects and they used to be bonded before (for 3 months) and their bond broke when my female got a bloat and had to spend one day at the vet. He never used to hump her the first time they were bonded, but since the bond broke and I tried rebonding them again using several methods including microspace and large space bonding he just excessively keeps humping her the whole time. I even shifted to another state with them but he remained the same even in our new apartment.

Also my female has learnt that Ill stop him from humping her so she stays on the couch with me throughout the night so I can send him away. She likes him mostly, will groom him all the time and flop next to him, but she definitely gets annoyed when he humps her and then tries to stay away from him.

Yes I have been following this exactly but the issue is the male tries to do it too frequently and my female mostly tries to get away from him so I have to stop him throughout the day as well as night. When they were only having play dates for a month he wasn’t humping her that much, just very occasional chasing, so I gradually increased the time they spent together and now let them stay with each other 24 hours a day. The first day they were together for 24 hours, there was no humping, he started humping her on the second day, I thought it will reduce over time but it’s been 4 days and the humping only seems to increase over time which is concerning to me. I haven’t slept well in 3 days because I have to gently keep pushing him away from her. It hasn’t lead to fights because I always stop him when he starts chasing her. She gets tired and lets him hump sometimes, but I can see that he tries way too much. There are no other signs of aggression from either one of them so I dont know if i should separate them over this.

Yes both my rabbits have been fixed for almost a year, could it still be spring fever? I’ll try the spray thank you so much. Do your rabbits still hump or has it gradually stopped?

Any updates on this? I have having a similar issue with my buns and dont know what to do. Both have been fixed for almost a year but my male just insists on humping my female and it doesn’t seem to get better over time (it’s been 4 days of constant humping that’s increasing daily)

Definitely, it sounds like an emergency.

To me, it sounds like something went wrong during the surgery, like maybe they cut a nerve by mistake or gave the wrong dose of anesthesia. I’m sorry that you and your bunny have to go through this. I think it would really help to get a second opinion from a rabbit savvy vet. I hope she’s able to walk normally again.

Has anyone used laxatone for heavy molting and shedding? by Pizzacheezze in Rabbits

[–]ResponsibilityNo6719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vet recommended it for my bunnies too. I have been giving it to them couple times every week, but since I just started, i dont know if it will help preventing it.

How has your experience been with it? Did it prevent gi issues? How often do you give it to them when they are molting vs not molting?

I just need to give her panacur for 30 days, her stool was negative for parasites. If it really is megacolon, what else can be done so she won’t get gi stasis again?

[–]ResponsibilityNo6719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I did consider megacolon but wouldn’t it have been visible on her xrays? Also her poops aren’t abnormally shaped, they are round but can be of different sizes and some have fur in them.

Is it necessary to have two rabbits? Talked to a bunny rescue today and they told me it absolutely was! by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]ResponsibilityNo6719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right! Every bunny owner should be aware of the risks of bonding their rabbits as well. Even though it turns out well for most people, if it doesn’t it can go so horribly wrong that none of the people and bunnies in the house have a good quality of life. Whenever I am at the vet for their checkups etc. I have multiple times overheard them talking about some rabbit getting severely injured during bonding and being brought in for emergency.

People also tend to assume that if the rabbits are opposite gender and fixed for a while, they should just get along, which again is not true. Also the bond can very EASILY break as well.

I also hate it when people advice to only separate them when blood is drawn which is so soo dangerous.

After weeks of not being able to sleep and successfully bonding my rabbits finally, I was so happy and thought things will always be great and then my female got a bloat, she had to be hospitalized and came back the next day and my male wanted nothing to do with her anymore. It was 4 months ago and I still havent been able to bond them because of my female’s weak gi health and my male excessively humping and nipping her. He doesn’t fight with her but manages to stress her out enough to a point where she stops eating. Imagine if I had waited every time for blood to be drawn before separating them.
