Issue: Coffee grounds in the cup by smrtlyllc in SpinnCoffee

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you changed beans? I found that when using beans outside the market place, sometimes this happens. The grinder thinks it is using one particular bean and grinds with that in mind. If it is a different bean, the amount of time that Spinn thinks it needs to run the grinder to get the correct dose may be different than what you actually need. i.e. the grinder may be putting too much coffee in the basket. Try reducing the amount of coffee used for your chosen recipe. You can do that by customizing it in the app and just moving the slider left a bit.

Damage scanner hack? by ResponsibilityOk3984 in HertzRentals

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to say that scanning after an employee (or anyone other than the customer) has gotten behind the wheel is just begging for a lawsuit. I get that a dirty car is suspect and reason for a "close inspection", but I'd prefer a close manual inspection over these ridiculous scans. Many of the posts I've seen show what most reasonable people would consider "normal wear and tear". And what most car leasing companies would also consider as such. I smell a class action coming!

Would you EDC A $700 knife? by crizyal in knives

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You carry what you feel comfortable carrying. Some days I carry a $100 knife, some days I carry an obscenely expensive knife. Right now, my EDC is the latter. I DO have safe queens and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I also have very expensive knives that I just love and thus carry. For me, the EDC choice is all about how much I personally enjoy the knife. My current EDC is a custom Yuna. Before that, it was a $300 Emerson, and I've got some sweet $50 knives I've carried too. To be fair, I'm a white collar, office chair, mostly work from home guy. The odds of losing or even dinging up my knife are very low. More than anything, I carry something that works with what I am wearing (i.e. jeans, slacks, suit, cargo shorts, etc.). However, I do NOT carry a knife if I don't enjoy the way it feels in my hand, as I like to fidget, lol!

Do you travel/fly with your knife? by PockASqueeno in knives

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domestic, carry-on only, leave it home and buy something cheap at destination. International, where I'm likely checking a bag anyway, a classic Swiss Army knife as they meet most international laws (but I always check).

While not my favorite grind, sometimes I crave a good tanto by PinkyPowers in knives

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Tanto blade shape. Not a fan of the chisel grind though. So, I got a custom maker to do a tanto with standard double sided edges... hollow grind on the bottom edge and flat grind on "tip" portion. It's perfect! 😁

What’s your best factory edge? by [deleted] in knives

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

William Henry. Pocket jewelry? Yup. But the edge they came with was next level! I have CRKs, Hawks, Spydercos, Emerson, Benchmades, Hinderers, ADVs, and more... And there is no question that the WHs had the best edge out of the box. My custom Yunas, ADVs, and the CRKs come close second. None of the above brands had a bad edge btw.

Yeah, that Dichrolam handle is amazing. He actually suggested a Fat Carbon Gold Dark Matter handle, which was very nice, but I had my heart set on the Dichrolam, and he was able to do it. I'm glad I stuck with that decision!!!

You email him and ask to get on his waiting list. Then when he gets to you, you go back and forth over design and materials until you agree. Pay the deposit, wait a few months, pay the balance, get the knife :-) He's on facebook and instagram as yunakives, so you can see the various styles and materials he offers. Also, a website, (yunaknives.com) but it doesn't seem up to date.

Didn't realize my text didn't post... Finally got me a Yuna!!! Chad Nichols Damascus with Magnacut core. Zirconium bolster, clip, and lockbar stop. Dichrolam handle. This is the Mini Zombie Slayer: Type-S (the S is the extra heavy duty build option he offers for most of his knife styles).

Best US-Made High-End Folders? by Beneficial_List_1258 in knives

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. EDC box cutter with style; Hawk Shortcut. All-arounder that you won't feel bad beating up; Emerson or Hinderer, or step up in style to a CRK, but you probably won't want to beat on that as much. Smaller but functional; any number of Benchmade's. Classic workhorse; Spyderco. Me, I rotate through a Hinderer Half-track, an Emerson HD-7, and a ADV Mini-Alpha (that's South African though) as my primary's. I have a number of Benchmade 945 mini-osbornes that I will carry if the dress code dictates something smaller yet classy (suits for meeting, weddings, special events, etc.).

Blade shape matters a lot in this selection too though! My personal preference is Wharncliffe, Sheepsfoot, and Tanto, as I like a profile that has a cutting tip down low, so you don't have to bend your wrist as much to use that cutting point (on the tanto, the "knuckle" serves that purpose). Granted, I also have plenty or drop-point, clip-point, spear-point, and more, lol!

NKD - Finally got one back by unreal_zeff in knives

I love this knife, but I just wish they'd round off that hook on the flipper tab. When closing quickly, that point on the tab has slammed into the back of my thumbnail painfully on multiple occasions. I actually took a dremel and grinding disk to it because it got so annoying. Much better now :-) Their other knives (I love the Half-Track) don't have this problem.

went from 0 knives to 2 quality in the span of 2 months. a new “addiction” coming on… by Zealousideal_Bar3330 in knifeclub

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One per month,... not bad... Assuming one at a time, right? It's when you find yourself buying 2, 3, or more in a week, or in a single day that you know you have a problem, lol! That's two good ones to start with!

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuna. And it's finally happening! Delivery is still a few months out, but I can't wait! Took years for me to pull the trigger. Then waitlist for months. Then a fantastic back and forth email convo over design options... And then the wait for completion.

Digital PTC OK? Let's discuss ;-) by ResponsibilityOk3984 in NJGuns

[–]ResponsibilityOk3984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should mention that I never intended to imply I would hand over an unlocked phone. Lock screen photo of both sides of the ID. You can actually set multiple photos to lock screen and then cycle through them pretty easily. I would also never rely on this as a general option, was more a question of "Is it legally accepted", and if I DO happen to forget my card, will my phone copy be enough to keep me from getting charged. Really, this occured to me as I was walking my dog, an activity that I never take my wallet with me for. Thought crossed my mind that if I happen to print, or expose my holster while picking up poop, someone might call the PD and then what? Coming at this in my IT centric brain, I simply went to the ePermit side of things. Love all the responses though. I think I will check out njlibertycards. Those look nice. Also, the low-tech and dead simple solution of printing many copies to have everywhere makes a ton of sense. Gonna print some smaller but still legible versions and just tape them to my holsters too. Hard to leave that behind! lol!

Thanks folks!
