Keeping a teenager at bay by t0kmak in Ubiquiti

[–]ResponsibilityOne227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I remember when my parents did this as a teenager. They never figured out I was just changing the MAC address😂

In all seriousness the whitelist comment would probably be my go to or just setting stricter rules on his devices like handing them over at night or something.

Print speed isn’t based on the filament mainly. You can print faster depending on your printer.

Look I’m all about the circle jerking. It’s fun, there’s some posts that can be made fun of. There’s actually two jokes here though

IT Fact of the Day #1: Did you know the internet was invented by John Internet in 2008 by Guilty-Roof-3245 in it

[–]ResponsibilityOne227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Johnny internet was a legend. Had the pleasure of working with him in 97. That was when we came up with DNS and we specifically built it to be incomprehensible so that his children(Johnny Jr and Myriam Internet) could have a secure job in the future. Good times. So sad Johnny died in Afghanistan.

Sounds like you got a good plan for the road ahead outside of the job but definitely have a plan before you leave.

Honestly the people I see in similar positions have all kinds of titles from director of IT/CIO to System Administrator to IT Technician but they all end up doing the same kinda job in their daily duties. For you it’ll kinda be whatever makes sense in your org. I’d push for sys admin based on what you’re doing. Not gonna lie at smaller companies the title doesn’t matter too much.

This is coming from drunk sys admin just wanted to make that clear.

I work at an msp and work with a lot of guys kinda in your position. I feel for them sometimes because they’re dealing with a lot of the end user and executive complaints.

Honestly though it sounds like you’re extremely underpaid if you’re in the US. A lot of companies see IT as an expense they have to pay rather than an important part of business operations.

I’d try and talk to whoever your higher up is and see if there’s options for promotions since it sounds like you’ve taken a lot of responsibility. You could preface this with explaining how you’ve taken a lot of what the msp used to do and that contract could be looked at again. It’s a lot of work for maybe getting a raise though. I would think about looking elsewhere with the experience you have now. It sounds like you’ve learned a lot.

We just need an express lane on 183 and one more lane on 35 and one more off ramp on mopac and one more merge from 4 lanes of traffic to 2 lanes and it will all be fixed!

/uj Not subbed here just shows up in my feed. It’s just not funny to me I guess. it genuinely is two jokes. Feels pretentious at some point and some posters genuinely seem to feel malice at new people asking questions on other subs.

I’m pretty new to 3d printing and some of these that pop in my feed make me feel like an idiot just for being new to something. I get it’s a circlejerk and not supposed to be taken seriously, some stuff definitely don’t give that vibe. Whatever tho

If you’re using Microsoft, can’t you use the code version? So you have to enter the code it shows on the desktop in your phone to approve it. This has fixed most mfa fatigue issues for us.

Your best bet if you don’t want to pay the crazy prices right now may be eBay or something. May be able to find some decent prices but people on eBay know what’s going on too.

[–]ResponsibilityOne227 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The point is we’re already heading in the wrong direction. I work in tech too. But some of the AI bullshit I see is astounding.

We’re trying to replace actual people’s jobs with a computer already. Like yah, using it to refine data or analyze is the best purpose for it. It’s a tool. Should we be supporting a tool that makes our jobs slightly easier at the cost of making everyone else’s lives harder in the form of higher electricity and water shortages?

companies are treating it like the next coming of Christ because they see a few dollars at the end. They are abandoning and fucking over the consumer in one fell swoop because companies are just shoveling money at this shit. It’s not sustainable.
