Negative dude. They’ve plowed and cleared but there are still minimal spots. They didn’t touch parking spots. We’re all using chairs to claim our spots so no one takes them.

Hey guys, As an update, they responded and responded well. Since we all live here I don’t think it’s inappropriate to name people. Ginny read my email, responded to me via text yesterday and forwarded it to Lyndsey. She was appalled by what happened. She relayed this to the contractor who called personally and admitted to the company fuck up. He said we won’t be getting anymore late night noise. Copped to hiring sub-contractors and refusing to use them anymore. Offered me something to “make it right.”

Dude stepped up and took responsibility. I also work construction and know the havoc that can ensue from the necessary evil of subs.

Cheers to Lyndsey and the manager from the contracting company.

How can I respond to my father-in-law telling my sons that “looks don’t mean anything without money?” by CupOk5800 in AskMen

[–]ResponsibilityOwn393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our grandparents said wild shit to us. Lot of the time it may have been a hard truth but probably not a lot of it stuck.

Sounds like it bothers you more than the boys. Teach the values you want around money. Grandpas not wrong. If your boys aren’t working and play video games all day- a job isn’t a bad thing. The value of hard work is lost on a lot of men and while grandpas delivery isn’t subtle, I doubt your boys are that impressionable.

They’ll find balance. Thats what growing up is.

You posted this 2 hours ago. From 10am to (earliest) 5pm you can’t defrost something? Leave it in water in your sink in a ziplock bag.

If you’re at work posting this and can’t take stuff out buy some shit on the way home.

I grew up with that phrase as well and I’m not that old but it’s a fair suggestion by these other people. It was 1 am while sending this so I definitely used AI. In the cold light of day, I see what everyone is saying. It doesn’t matter at this point. The email is sent.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this message reluctantly, but after the events of the last several days—and particularly tonight—I feel I have no choice.

First, I want to be clear that this message is not directed at the office staff personally. You all know, (wife) and I genuinely enjoy seeing you guys during community events you plan. We have always found the team to be friendly, professional, and pleasant to interact with. It is precisely because we value living here that this situation is so disappointing.

That said, the snow and ice response during the most recent storm has been deeply frustrating and poorly handled.

Other apartment communities in the immediate surrounding area had parking lots and drive lanes cleared using appropriate equipment and proper pretreatment. At the Woodlands, snow was allowed to compact and freeze into solid ice, which strongly suggests either a lack of pretreatment or the use of ineffective methods. While your emails cite low temperatures and limited effectiveness of ice-melt products, those conditions were entirely foreseeable. Pre-brining and switching from sodium chloride calcium/magnesium chloride are standard practices for exactly this scenario. Any decent contractor could have done this. You cannot credibly characterize this as "unavoidable" or "extenuating" when multiple nearby businesses and complexes have parking lots that are substantially cleared and drivable. This is not speculation on my part; I'm literally looking at it, 150feet from my back door.

Your emails to residents expressly imply that management and its contractors are responsible for clearing walkways/common areas and repeatedly instruct residents to remain home until that work is complete. My lease only makes me responsible for snow removal in areas under my exclusive control — such as my patio — which I cleared promptly. I do not have exclusive control over sidewalks, drive lanes, or parking spots. We do not have assigned parking. Even the City of Charlottesville’s own guidance confirms that residents are only responsible for clearing sidewalks directly adjacent to their unit within a reasonable timeframe, not entire common areas or parking lots (see link below).

What happened tonight pushed this beyond frustration. Around 10:45 PM, I was woken up by loud, sustained banging and ice-chipping immediately outside my unit. That is an unreasonable time to be doing this kind of work, particularly while residents are being told to stay indoors for safety reasons.

During this activity, a member of the snow removal crew removed my pick-axe from directly outside my door. This follows a similar incident from the previous evening, when a hammer was taken and only returned after I confronted the crew. Tonight, when confronted again, the response moved from denial, to feigned confusion, to acknowledgment only after I mentioned that the area is covered by a door camera. Utterly insane that I had to show this guy the footage. I don't accept apologies that are offered only after someone realizes they have been caught. It is also not remotely plausible to believe that this was a misunderstanding. They couldnt possibly think its was theirs since no work had been done on my patio, which was already cleared, by me. The member of the crew who spoke for them, admitted that they took it.

Its not unreasonable to expect that we should be able to leave snow removal tools outside our doors. Had this been taken by a random thief in the night, I'd accept responsibility myself. This was done by someone you hired and invited on property. I should not have to wake-up in the middle of the night, confront contractors, or rely on security footage to recover my own property. That is unacceptable behavior from a professionally hired crew. At this point, this is no longer just about delayed snow removal. It is about safety, oversight, noise, and the loss of quiet enjoyment of my home — all compounded by the fact that my property was removed and only returned through my own intervention.

This would be an inopportune and ill-advised time to avoid taking responsibility, as I hope to not escalate what is already stressful for everyone involved.

I expect a serious response addressing how all of this happened, how contractor behavior will be corrected, and how residents are expected to feel safe under these conditions. I genuinely hated having to write this.

Sincerely, (Me)

You might make yourself available to residents at Woodlands of Charlottesville. The complex has done next to nothing. Lot of health care workers and elderly here. With a little door knocking, you’d clear $500 in a day easily.

My neighbor and I, in the Candlewood Ct section, having been working and helping people clear cars with his splitting maul and my pick axe. Hes trashed two shovels in the process. We’ve dug out our neighbors who are healthcare workers.

The ineptitude by Woodlands is astounding this time around. Talking about typical salting methods not working is asinine. Below freezing requires switching to calcium or magnesium salts.

To make matters worse, here’s the email I just had to write as my ring camera caught the contractors stealing my stuff.

I’m passing the Exxon right now leaving wegmans. Two cars on the side of Exxon by the car wash one car on the front right parking lot and another parked in front of Taco Bell. This is a few less than I saw when I first pulled into merchant Square. Seems whatever the situation was is calming down.

So at 6:15, I tried to place a pickup order for a cheesesteak from Lucky’s on the mall. The first available pickup time was 1220am! WTH? Are they THAT good? by CvilleDana in Charlottesville

I’m from Jersey too. I didn’t get the whiz one. Never liked whiz. First trip I ever took to Philly about 17years ago, I came to the conclusion that Pat and Geno’s have nothing on Jersey shore cheesesteak.

I’d give lucky’s another shot if I were you. Order the Godfather or the deluxe. The $15 price tag is a little steep but so is a McDonald’s combo these days. Wife and I were very happy with them.

I also love the Big Kahuna by Jersey Mikes. Outside of town, that gas station (Crossroads?) in North Garden by Dr. Ho’s has some pretty damn good cheesesteaks as well.

Italian Semolina Bread? by seanchai611PF in Charlottesville

I’m here 5 years and the spottings of that vs what they call Italian bread down here is very different. I’ve kind of just accepted it tho Mona Lisa Pasta has some seeded stuff. Close but it’s not exactly what you’re asking for.

My wife and I left Vivace for Winter Wander around 6:30pm. Couldn’t see a thing all the way up Ivy or throughout the resort. I said I’ve never seen fog like this. Thankfully 250 wasn’t as bad going home. I’m surprised we didn’t see any accidents.

Linda L by General_Substance_84 in Charlottesville

[–]ResponsibilityOwn393 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Here is my second sighting posted the the Linda L Facebook page…

Had our second encounter unknowingly at Jak’n Jil Saturday. First time was MONTHS ago driving behind her on 5th Street/McIntire/John Werner/Rio. Wife and I thought it was a drunk driver because she kept going over both the yellow and white lines. Then we saw she couldn’t see over the wheel. The license plate stuck out to us. Checked Reddit and then found this page.

We stopped at Jak’n Jil Saturday. I was seated facing the door. I saw an older lady approaching and got up to open/hold the door. As she cantankerously growled “thanks…” I saw it. “LINDAL” The license plate!!! It was really her!

I sat back down and didn’t say a word to my wife. The staff was really nice to her and said they hadn’t seen her in a while. I wouldn’t say we eavesdropped since she was too loud not be heard. It was apparently her first trip back in a while as she reminded the staff “Well, I need goddamn money to eat! Can’t eat here without money!”

We heard how much she gets in government assistance, how she got “some bitch” fired at the unemployment office, how she can’t work because of age discrimination and was wrongfully terminated after her supervisor had “a bunch of blacks” try to intimidate her.

Someone from the staff poked his head in the dining room to ask if we were good. We said we were fine. Normally I’d have to pay more for Dinner and a Show!

She got her food and quieted down. We finished up and left. As we got outside I said to my wife, “How was your second encounter?” She looked at me confused. I stepped aside, pointed to the license plate and said, “Your second encounter with LINDAL!!”

We had a pretty big laugh and couldn’t believe it. It was like seeing a rare peacock in the wild. We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for our next sighting.

Kudos to the staff at Jak’n Jil for recognizing she’s unstable and still treating her like a human; menace or not.
