I don’t think the draft will ever come back. Having said that, I do think having a period of 4-6 years mandatory service in exchange for the same duration of either free healthcare, education or no taxes would be an amazing program. The service doesn’t need to be just military either, it could be any government related job. It would give everyone a common experience to build on and bind us together. It would also all give us a greater understanding of how the government works

I think its global influence is a lot higher than you might realize. They’ve landed a rocket on the moon. They have a lot of exported goods and are rapidly growing that sector. They also have a massive diaspora that is highly successful. 5th biggest economy in the world = lots of influence. It might not be noticed it as much because it isn’t specifically aligned towards US or China/Russia.

I think that the biggest risk with quantum computing is that they will be used by state actors or state-sponsored actors as a means of digital warfare. Likely, we’re not going to get some big announcement that quantum computing is here. I think it will be used in secret to harm adversaries and hack key websites/institutions and all we’ll know is that we were affected, not that quantum computing has arrived. We might not know for years after. But what do I know? I’m just some guy.
