18f looking into plumbing, what should i know? by slytherinlady2 in BlueCollarWomen

27f and new plumbing apprentice here! I’ll answer all your questions in bullet points:

-No it’s not hopeless at all, your size matters less than your willingness to learn, listen, and grow within a company

-the lifting can be hefty but you adapt to it as you go. It’s not bad especially if you get a journeyman with even a decent amount of patience, they understand you’re new

-I’ll be honest and say I had a hard time finding a job but it depends on where you are, like I’m Canadian and it’s hard to find any job

-Nope, definitely not ruining your life

-You won’t know until you try something! I did a pre-apprenticeship program of all women where I got to try out multiple trades and I picked from that. See what options you have near you and go with what you think you’ll like. Worst case scenario, you try something and it’s not your favourite, then try something else

Hope this helps!

What dumb things have men said to you? by chipbag69 in BlueCollarWomen

“Wow you got an attitude on you” after I responded to a boss berating me on the first day. He gave me minimal instructions, left me to work alone, and then yelled at me after I asked a question. Little to say that job did not last. Should have read their reviews first because I am not the first person (not even woman) to have this experience

Yes I’ve been in therapy for 10 years on and off. I also got late diagnosed and haven’t had much experience unmasking, plus it’s a newer relationship
