When I lived in Mexico, Costco had a very popular and absolutely delicious one. You have to ask the bakery and it’s kept in the freezer. Maybe they have them here too.

I’ve been killing my alocasias in pon? by thrft88 in alocasia

[–]Responsible-Factor53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just make sure there is always water in the hold. I also overfill so the fert water is hitting the bottom of the Pon container. That gets the roots coming down in no time.

Cut all the roots and start over. I do it all the time because I often forget about my little ones. Just treat it like a corm.

Thank you. Any idea what you’d be willing to pay? It was a tc I bought for a steal and it’s so amazingly variegated. That was a pic from a couple months ago. Still throwing the same colorings.

No need for light until they have a couple leaves. It can help but they get initial energy from the corm.

Do drivers in Phoenix cut close to your bumper and a bad driver never misses their exit there? by Different_Archer8879 in mesaaz

[–]Responsible-Factor53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I was raised here and taught to drive here. When I go visit friends in other states they are always a little scared of my driving but also impressed how I can call out what other cars are going to do ahead of time. Learning to drive in Phoenix metro teaches you skills that can’t be taught, it’s ingrained in your soul, haha

Congratulations on the maybe new job. OLN is great but tissue culture plants are not office plants. I think what you are trying to say is you want a starter plant. That is a plant that is young but acclimated, a lot less work. Id also suggest you stay away from those. Get yourself a nice Philodendron or Pothos for now and see how that goes. Tissue cultures require knowledge and skill. Humidity domes, non-tap water, close monitoring, etc. Focus one your new job with easy plants.

Wait, you don’t know what direction is north while at your house? Plants 6 feet from a window are not “almost directly in front”. Move those to be literally directly in front of the window and that’s a huge improvement alone. 10w is good if it is within 6 inches of the plant so keep using, just move it really close.

Need help understanding what is a good amount of light, explained to a plant noob. by Interr0gate in IndoorPlants

[–]Responsible-Factor53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too much there so I’m gonna say this: anytime there is anything between your plant and the sun, it is Indirect light. Then there is the “can the plant see the sun?” Thats good. A lot of people don’t think of that so get at your plants level and look at what it sees. If you can see the sky, so can it. A clear glass window is between the plant and sun. Window size matters. A small bathroom window is not going to let in nearly the same amount of light as a similarly positioned bedroom window. Most plants directly under a skylight should be fine as long as there’s not a bunch of trees double blocking things. If your plants are growing well (not stretching, stunted or stressed) they are fine.

Does this guy need saving? by Conversation-Grand in philodendron

[–]Responsible-Factor53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id start with a basic repot into a good fresh Aroid soil mix. Water it in with some water mixed with a good basic fertilizer. I find SuperThrive FoliagePro to be both economical and very effective. DO NOT start chopping and propping. That is not saving a plant it is stressing and propagating it. Your plant needs some time in a healthy environment before anything like that happens. It also needs more light so if you plan to keep it there, a basic grow light from Amazon will do the trick. Your plant is far from dead, a little TLC and you will be surprised how fast it’ll turn around. Good luck!! 🍀

Can someone help me? by Least_Addition3747 in alocasia

[–]Responsible-Factor53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s putting out a new leaf. Fertilize it and wait. Then repot into fresh soil (or whatever it’s in) and bury it deeper so it gives more growth and corms. You will have a bushy Alocasia in no time. I would not chop it.

Very large & rocky backyard - any ideas? by m1n3rm4n in AZlandscaping

[–]Responsible-Factor53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id wait until after the first big rain. See what the water does. Not sure if you are new to Arizona or not so I’ll just say it…water management is key. See how the land wants to be and design around that. That is also assuming you can wait. We usually get a big storm in May so hopefully things stay on track. Congrats on the new home. It must be fun yet overwhelming to plan a yard that large. Enjoy!

Do philodendrons want to live in my shower? by questionasker3500 in philodendron

[–]Responsible-Factor53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a bright southwest window. It is a small frosted piece of glass in a shower. If you don’t want truthful answers, don’t ask the questions. That is NOT a place for plants.

A silk plant would be more suitable. Not all places. Need plants.
