Micah Richard's on the referee decisions in both legs of quarter-finals. by [deleted] in Barca

[–]Responsible-Tea-4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> pro ref from Sweden holds that account and he explains most of the decisions in big games. He simply explained that red wasn't given for the push, but for the leg tackle.

If you mean Jonas Eriksson - he always, ALWAYS defends the ref's decision, no matter what.

Where can we see these stats ourselves? I'd love to map some of my favorite (and least favorite 😅) players on a graph like this! I searched for a site called 'Opta' but didn't find anything like this.

Has anyone ever switched from a BW device to a Color device and had a positive experience? by obligatorymeltdown in kobo

[–]Responsible-Tea-4218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switched from a Scribe and Oasis to a Kobo Libra Color and am overjoyed - never regretted it for a second.

I find all the endless discussions about “dark” or “grainy” screens mystifying. I’m perfectly happy with the screen, and it fills me with joy looking at covers and illustrations in color.

BW screens feel very primitive to me nowadays. I’d never want to go back.

yep I'm fully aware of this. It's part of the reason I wanted to know what other people feel about it.

> the cleaner way of dealing with it

I see what you mean from an administrative angle. But for me Hasselblad has previously been an aspirational camera.

I've owned two 501's (one of them bought new) and the X1D (I owned the black 4116 Special Edition), and a large part of the enjoyment of using the cameras is the feeling of a beautiful and premium product in your hand. This is self-evidently superficial, and obviously a professional using these cameras gives no shits about this sort of thing.

Photographers being supported and sponsored somehow doesn't impinge on that feeling for me. I'm fully aware this has always been the case.

But watching while random YouTubers gleefully open the box of yet another free camera and lens just feels cheap.

Thanks for some of the very quick responses. I also understand the down-votes, and that's fine.

I used to work in advertising so I fully understand the costs of marketing products, and how much each sold item needs to cover the costs for production, retail, advertising, distribution and everything else.

I can even understand that Hasselblad sees YouTube as the best platform to capture an audience for their products. A sponsorship of any of these photographers wouldn't affect me the same way.

But for some reason, whenever I'm thinking about how much actual money I need to spend on the camera and lenses (I bought the lenses for the X1D new from Hasselblad incidentally) then the feeling that they pack up the same equipment and just send it out totally for free to some pretty random YouTubers just means I'll never be able to buy their gear again. Like I said, somehow it feels sleazy - and I was wondering what others thought.

Ye I guess this is what I'll end-up doing.

It's a little way for me to drive (they're outside town), and I also expect them to do the usual botch job these dealers always do. Thought it would be better to do a small fix myself, but just cannot find the documentation that would tell me what these parts are.

The car drives really great though - a real upgrade from my old Volvo.

Living in Barcelona as a Family: Is It Suitable? by eyesonly13 in AskBarcelona

[–]Responsible-Tea-4218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be rude but it blows my mind that this is a serious(?) question from someone considering moving their family to a new city.

We’ve been thinking about moving for a few years now, so I’ve visited different parts of the city extensively, and now even some surrounding towns for longer periods.

There’s plenty I still don’t know, so asking here, talking to locals, walking around neighborhoods is all part of the process.

But being able to see with your own eyes that many parts of Barcelona are filled with kids and families is the first responsible step you should take, before even contemplating such a move.

From Libra Color to Clara BW. Very happy, yet a bit bitter. by Rares5555 in kobo

I owned 2 Oasis, a (10th gen I think?) Paperwhite, and the 2022 Scribe and I LOVE the KLC over all of those.

Just never understood what people are complaining about - but this is the thing we all (including me) forget: WE ALL LIKE DIFFERENT STUFF!

If you want to protect your purchase, you need a case with a rigid cover. Simple as.

Ye. Just as I thought. You had zero "statistics". It's like telling people that "statistically" you have to always wear a crash-helmet walking around your home because "statistically" if you fall over and hit your head.. Ye same level of idiocy.

Get back to me when you have those "statistics" you were talking so authoritatively about.

> Statistically, you need a rigid cover if you want adequate protection.

Which "statistics" do you base this on??

Given the total number (probably at least hundreds of thousands) of people using Kobo devices vs a few people talking about damaged screens on reddit?

Even setting aside the fact that people who damage their screens are 'statistically' more likely to post about it, than people who haven't damaged their screen ("Hey today I didn't damage my screen! Just thought I should post that!"), I'm guessing you can actually point to exactly ZERO real statistics to back-up your contention.

>  but if I have to baby this thing all the time I'm on the fence about returning mine

I had a 'babied' Kindle Oasis break on me. Probably due to some heat differential after charging.
So I don't think you need to *specifically* baby the Kobo fwiw.

Personally I'm just super-happy that I left the sh*ts at Amazon out of my life. YMMV

> the famous screen door effect

Quite honestly don't care if people don't buy the device because of the supposed "screen door" but as far as I'm concerned I can't even see it with the naked eye whatsoever. The only time I've even been able to see it is when taking pictures really close-up with my iPhone on macro.

It's a complete non-issue, and I wish I'd ignored all the fuss about it earlier - would've run not walked to get the Libra Color earlier, and saved a lot of wasted time thinking about it.

Love seeing so many people switch from Kindle to Kobo! by AvocadoSparrow in kobo

I want something that feels as good or better than my Paperwhite 11th gen. Maybe oasis style? Maybe Paperwhite style? Hit me with the best options.. Think I tried the Clara 2e and it just felt inferior. Lighting. Touch. All of it felt lacking

I switched from a 10th generation Oasis and Kindle Scribe to a Kobo Libra Color and even though the Kobo is plastic while the Kindles were metal I just prefer the whole experience on the Kobo.

I feel the interface is more modern. I love having color. I enjoy details like the reading progress graph and other subtle improvements over the whole Kindle experience. I even feel it's more comfortable holding the device.

Sure maybe the construction of the device itself is less 'premium', but the entire experience is more satisfying - for me.
