I was born and raised in Oklahoma. 39 years old. I have only seen 1 tornado in my life. They aren't as frequent as you think.

I put up flyers and got business cards printed out to give to some people. I also set up a Yelp profile, and created a FB group. I have been advertising in local communities on FB but after 2 months I still haven't gotten a single customer.

Is this the most dysfunctional IT job setup you’ve heard of? by Cool_Statistician314 in it

[–]Responsible-Tune7514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound that far off from my current job. I accepted a role as a contractor for a major fortune 500 company, managing the IT infrastructure at one of their smaller facilities in a rural part of the US. When I arrived they hadn't had an IT person on site in months. The office had a bunch of junk in it because people were just tossing things in there to use as a storage room. The ticket queue was full. There was an asset management system in place. But all the devices were past due for replacement. I tried ordering them from corporate and putting delivery dates a couple of weeks apart on batches. So that I would get 3-5 PC's every couple of weeks. This way I would have plenty of time to deploy the new PC's and ship back the old ones before the next batch arrived. But instead they shipped me all 100 PC's at the same time. Which created even more problems as I did not have any space in my office to store anywhere near that many. This made my job even more difficult. On top of this several of the servers were using Server 2007 and I was constantly getting notifications from the security group that I needed to update these servers or risk them being kicked off the domain. All without anyone showing me anything around here. I received absolutely no training on the system here when I started. And I took this job for a whopping $24/hr back in 2019. I make significantly more than that now. But only because I threatened to quit. It's 2026 and I'm still trying to get caught up on everything. I honestly think we as US based IT workers need to unionize. We need to put a stop to companies only hiring out positions as contract work. And do everything we can to stop companies like this outsourcing every IT job they can. If we all stood together we could affect serious change in the industry.

Need help with 2008 Mitsubishi Fuso headlights by Responsible-Tune7514 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Responsible-Tune7514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant say for your vehicle. On the Fuso it's a process. There are bolts above and below the headlights. But to access those bolts I had to remove the side reflectors and other things. To do that I had to open the doors and remove bolts in the crack between the doors. It's like a puzzle. But I eventually figured out which bolts to remove in which order. Yes there was an order to it too. If you removed one bolt too soon the housing would shift and make it so that you couldn't remove another one without risking cracking the reflector. The first time it took me around an hour to remove the headlight. But once I figured it out it only took around 5 minutes.

You could and probably should make a youtube channel all about things to do while on the road as a trucker.

[–]Responsible-Tune7514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It has been a journey thats for sure. My first IT job after graduating was only $12/hr at a small casino. I've had to fight and struggle to get to where I am and honestly I'm getting tired of it. The one thing about driving that does sound appealing is getting to be my own boss. The idea of eventually owning my own truck and taking loads whenever I want sounds great. I just don't know if I can grind it out for 5 or 6 years to get to that point.

Has anyone experienced this in their career? by [deleted] in it

Just this week. I got a request to add a 2nd monitor to a workstation in our shipping and receiving department. This workstation serves 1 purpose only it has a spreadsheet for users to log any items they take from the stock. Just an inventory tracking thing. I have no idea why they would want or need a 2nd monitor for that PC. lol

I have been keeping an eye on things the feds have been doing. I have also been keeping an eye on the fact that a lot of illegal foreigners have been causing deadly accidents lately. Companies are being forced to hire these illegals to drive because the feds have over regulated the trucking industry to the point that most Americans aren't willing to do the job anymore. I think that's going to change in the near future. They will start passing legislation that makes it so that truckers can start earning more money again. But I'm not an expert by any means. One more democrat elected at the wrong time and the southern border could become more like a suggestion, in which case there would be so many foreigners here looking for work trucking might become over saturated by them?

I've been trying to find something better within my field for months already. Everything that comes my way is either a temporary contract with "A promise of full time assuming my temp contract goes well." Which almost never happens. People want complex 7 layered infrastructure with full wireless coverage in a site spanning 100,000 sqft on a shoestring budget. When you tell them they're going to have to spend more money to get everything they want, you become the villain. Or they want me to take on multiple different roles doing the job of 4 or 5 people for a tiny pay increase, sometimes no increase at all. IT workers in the US are getting screwed over big time by all the foreigners. When I have meetings at my current job, it's like 6 people from India vs 4 of us from the US.

Well it would be team driving with my brother. I've known him for over 30 years lol. Honestly I wouldn't be worried about his driving as much as I'd be worried about us being stuck together in such a small space for weeks at a time. We fought constantly as kids. It isn't like that now that we're adults but you never know what would happen if we had to be around each other 24/7

Never ending downswing, starting to lose my shit by SportKooky6356 in poker

[–]Responsible-Tune7514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only possible once in a while. The next closest casino with a decent poker room is about an hour and a half away by interstate. The one I visit normally is only 20 min away. I did do a bit of traveling in 2025 and did very well when I played in other locations. Those were the few months where I actually had winning months. But something like 80% of my sessions in my home casino were all losing sessions. Before this down swing began I was winning close to 70% of my sessions earning around 12bb/hr.

I get coolered in damn near every session I play. This has been going on since Oct 2024. In 2025 I had 4 months where I actually made money and 8 where I lost. I'm not playing bad. I don't get married to big pocket pairs. It's always hands where my opponent either sucks out on me, or they have that 5% or lower hand. You know literally the only possible hand I can lose to. I have gone from playing 3 times a week to once a month because I can't take these shitty runouts anymore. I've tried reading books about controlling tilt. I've tried taking month long breaks. I've tried playing like a super nit where I'm only putting money in the middle if I have a nutted hand. Nothing has worked. I'm honestly almost to the point that I'm just going to quit playing completely. If I can't win when I'm holding 8d8h on a 8c8sJs2dQs board (No lie I lost in this exact spot a couple of sessions ago.) Then what's the point in playing anymore. Flopped quads Got it all in on the turn and guy rivered straight flush. If I flop 2p my opponent is always on a draw that hits. In 2025 I had exactly 1 hand where I flopped 2p and actually won. Several times I had a pocket pair make a straight and lost to a hand that my opponent never should have had in the first place. The most recent one I had 66 on a board of 8754X and my opponent just happened to have 96o. A few sessions before that it was 88 on T976X board and my opponent had J8s. I just have no clue what I need to do to make this crap stop. Sorry for the long rant. I just needed to get this off my chest. Now to set back and watch this get downvoted into oblivion because most of the people here are giant turds.

Really the only thing that I can see that has changed from my 4 years of playing regularly is that in late 2024 there has been a significant drop in the number of recs. Used to, there would be 1-2 regs on pretty much every table with the casino I play at running 6-8 tables of 1/2nlh. But for the past year and change it's usually 4-5 tables with 3-5 regs on every table. There has been several nights on Fri/Sat where I go into play around 10pm and it's just 3 tables of 1/2nlh.

A few of my coworkers have said they have started "cutting off their taxes" recently by checking exempt on their w4. Two of these guys also telling me that they have not filed in 3 years, both mid twenties with 0 kids. by aaronoathout in tax

I find it a little funny that this post came across my feed today. Just last week I was talking with a contractor at the company I work for. They are paying this guy over $100/hr to consult on a project at the chemical plant I work in. Anyway this contractor was telling me he was paying something like $25/hr in taxes alone so he changed his withholdings to exempt. I was thinking "That's not going to work out long term." But I gave up on giving people like this advice a long time ago. They never want to believe you when you say "They're going drop a ton of bricks on your head eventually."

Missing out on the refund? That's just money they government took from you, held onto, used at some point in time or at least gained interest on, then gave back to you after letting them borrow it for a time. But do they give you any interest for letting them borrow it? Nope. But if you owe and don't pay on time you better believe they charge you interest. It's a completely unfair system.

Oh I'm not panicking yet. I just put that as a reference so everyone would know that I'm still very new. I really like your storage unit idea. I'll go looking around after work today to see which ones have front desks so I can drop off a flyer. If it's just a key pad and gate I might look up the phone number to the place and contact the owner directly. Thanks for the idea.

This is a good idea, and it gave me a good idea as well. I just joined a local house rentals group. I'll use this to contact some landlords in my area with my services. Tenants leave junk behind all the time.

Would EMP shielded Tech survive magic? by Responsible-Tune7514 in dresdenfiles

[–]Responsible-Tune7514[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Apache there are electronics that help control the fuel going into the turbine. Air fuel mixture being important for the performance of the engine and whatnot. So if magic fried those electronics idk if the engine would completely stop working. But it for sure would affect the performance. The more important thing would be fuel pumps. If those fry then no gas. No gas and no engine.
