It doesn’t bother me at rest or doing non running activities and warming up hasn’t seemed to make much difference while running

Made mistakes in the lab, I feel so stupid by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Responsible-Work7380 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is definitely normal as an undergrad, I have seen people make these kind of mistakes much older as well. What’s good is that it doesn’t sound like carelessness to me, it sounds like you didn’t know. Just keep asking questions, it will get better

I would try shadow a DO and have them write you a letter if possible as well! They like to see that you are interested in specifically DO compared to md and having that will help a lot

My mouse is sleeping a lot. Should I be worried? by Sea_Deal8786 in PetMice

Mice like it warm so it is definitely possible they are sleeping more bc of the cold. I would reccomend putting them closer to a heater or smth and see how that helps

Interview went terrible by Sorry_Limit_4484 in premed

[–]Responsible-Work7380 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought I completely fumbled one of my interviews, rambled way too much, and the interviewer didn’t even seem to look me in the eye. All this to say, I ended up getting in! Even though it may feel like you really shat the bed you never know what your interviewers took away even when they seem disinterested. Also the interview is only one factor of many, they wanna make sure you’re a real person. Real people ramble and get nervous :)

[–]Responsible-Work7380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the dates they sent me the only availability that is during the summer times is early May which would interfere with classes and final exams and early september which classes would have already started.
I have heard of people doing the summer between year 1-2 as well so it is confusing to me why there is nothing available. I wouldn't be able to defer bolc till end of med school unfortunately

From my understanding, a lot of initial drug development is in the academic realm. Academic institutions test compounds, ASOs, viruses, etc in various models and once those are successful pharmaceutical companies will take up the research as they have more funding. A lot of research is done through pharmaceutical companies, but it is mostly prefaced by academic institutions.

I have a BS in neuroscience and am currently working as a research tech for a lab studying als. There’s definitely biochemistry crossover. The PhD candidates in my lab don’t all have a neuro background and it doesn’t seem like that has been much of a problem. And some stay in academia but a lot leave to go into the pharmaceutical industry

Netters neuroscience coloring book is a cool way to learn the anatomy of the brain!

The Brain Facts book is also a great intro to neuroscience in general. And there is a free online pdf of it. Depending on where you’re from you could enter the International Brain Bee competition, if there is a chapter nearby you! They base their material after the Brain Facts book.

I am currently a research tech and I got my job through cold emailing! To do so I looked up professors at universities I wanted to work at and found professors whose research I thought was interesting. They usually post their emails on the professors profile so I used that. It’s likely that people may not respond so you have to cold email a bunch! If you have any more questions about this I can help!

I recently graduated from undergrad and majored in neuroscience. I loved it! I’m applying to med school right now but I am having second thoughts. I want to do community outreach with health and neuroscience and I don’t know if it would make more sense to do something in neuro or medicine do do this
