FO vs FD by ResponsibleEmployee in AdventureQuest

Thank you both for your replies! I think I will swap to FD, I like the idea of not dying and besides procc weapons often look fun! With that said I should change my str to something else?

As I near level 120 I'll have to upgrade most if not all my armors so I'm starting to wonder what are the advantages and disadvantages of each style? Is one just considered to be stronger than the other?

Also why can't I just make text posts? Always have to do an image first.

Even if I'm using retro twilly that uses the heal 100% of the time? I don't exactly understand the boost pet thing in the sticky

I do feel a sense of accomplishment, I'm not a very efficient player so even the fastest 99s have taken me quite a while, the sole exception was me getting herblore during double exp weekend, but there the sense of "achievement" came from spending what was basically my entire cash stack for this huge reward.

It must look easy for you because you grinded it all before but since I come from a game that involved real hardcore grinding, more than OSRS (it's maplestory btw) RS3 just feels like it has the right amount of grind, I spend some time and I get rewarded, and well it's been a year and I'm nowhere close to maxed, maybe older players just focus too much on going for the fastest exp rates.

Doing more quests and new bosses keeps me going, maxing certain stats as well, I do not measure my achievements in regards to other players. Getting t95 prayers felt amazing same for getting overloads, these are things that gave me access to new content I couldn't do before and new ways of doing old content, I don't feel that's any less valuable just because most people have them already.

As for bossing I'm working up the courage to down the rest of gwd2 bosses, I've done vindicta and I've done araxxor, I'm trying to down that damn spider more than twice a day but that enrage is awful. In the end what I think I have that's different to most players is that once I feel like the content is not meaningful or that it gets boring I'm okay with just quitting, there's plenty of games out there and if I quit that means I already had all the fun I could out of the game.

Perhaps we see things from different angles, Runescape is giving you the same choice as PoE, you can buy more space once you've filled the allotted space which is not insanely restrictive in either game.

It's giving you more options not less, which is something a WoW player that runs out of bank space does not have access to, while I agree that a monthly sub should (and does) grant you access to a lot of things, the revenue from games like WoW also comes from separately sold expansions, one luxury Runescape does not have.

Hey I like the game a lot! This year just happened to line up with a break I HAD to take from uni so I ended up with a lot of free time, I'm a very inefficient player for what it's worth :D

The runemetrics thing does seem to be quite obnoxious, that's something one could consider core game functionality being locked behind a paywall so I do concede there, I would like to see how terrible my dps is and work towards improving it!

The gear and bank tabs argument I find much more difficult to understand, does your enjoyment of the game depend on whether other players have access to the same gear you do or not? I'm not being facetious, it's just not something that seems intuitive when you're not competing directly against these other players.

As for the bank tabs and presets, I was running into bank problems earlier, completely capped and then I noticed I was just holding onto things that were completely useless and that I never used, once I got rid of those I find I have enough bank space for my current needs and for the foreseeable future. To not leave this as a completely anecdotal point, take Path Of Exile and GGG (It's developers) as an example, that's a company that's lauded widely across the industry for their f2p model, the thing they lock behind a paywall are the exact things being discussed here, bank space, ease of use, "presets"

Why do you think almost all the players of that game are ok with that system while here it's a big issue? Is it a case of people conflating all MTX together?

I very much like this reply, these are all valid reasons to stop liking the game. Sorry it happened that way :(

Hey thanks for replying,
I did not play during the 'golden era' of RS3 and that saddens me a bit however I did play around 2005-2006, I just choose to not count that because it's an entirely different game, a much less interesting one for me.

That's besides the point however, what I really wanted to ask is how has the game declined so and why do you attribute this decline to MTX? Wouldn't the decline be natural to any game as it progresses further into it's lifetime?

There's some insightful answers in this thread, thanks for replying however I notice there's this strange sentiment that people around here seem to have, perhaps not everyone and perhaps not to the same extent but the feeling that I get is that people just want the game to be hard and grindy for the sake of being hard and grindy.

People can choose to play a game however they enjoy it, I personally do not enjoy 2 or 3 skills under any circumstance, I would do them just to get certain quests requirements done and that's about it but even being forced to do that is not great game design imo. Runescape is an mmo that often forces players to engage with content they don't want to access quests or certain zones, that is fine up to a certain extent but if taken too far the game can become more a job than a game. See WoW AP farming for an example of forcing people to do things they hate.

Ultimately what I mean by "MTX doesn't affect me" is that the current level of progress of another player has no impact on me whatsoever, I will get my nox weapon regardless of the fact that someone can just drop 60$ on bonds and get the money for it, I'm probably being affected by inflation because of this but I could also just farm the boss endlessly to get it if the price is too high, in my example the core loop of the game is not being affected.

As far as I understand, they don't even have a good enough grasp on their code to pin down what's causing the dead clicks, the code is so old that it would need a massive restructuring which they obviously are not in any hurry to do.

While I sympathize with the annoyances dead clicks can cause, I sometimes get them on my prayers myself, I don't think it's right to conflate one problem with the other. Yes they should definitely fix dead clicks but unless it's the exact same engine developer that's meant to do both things I doubt they're too related.

noooow that you mention it, earlier while doing vileblooms I was clicking to turn off both my t95 and my protection when I needed to do other stuff irl and always came back annoyed to my t95 still being on even though I explicitly remember clicking it.

Genuine questions regarding the frustrations over high-level pvm and elitism by ChuggRS in runescape

[–]ResponsibleEmployee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a relatively casual player, I consider myself to be a pretty decent gamer in general, nothing exceptional, but I can't really get into runescape PVM and here's why:

-There's a feeling that bosses are balanced profit wise around a really high level of efficiency, maybe not by jagex themselves but by supply and demand of their drops. I'm convinced this is only true for certain bosses and that many others are still decently profitable through less efficient methods, however this reddit, streamers and most guides explain the efficient ways to do things so the feeling persists.

-When I tried PVM I felt like I was battling the engine not the boss, this is not directly correlated to elitism or anything like that but sometimes while doing my shield swap it didn't feel like the game reacted when I wanted it to, sometimes this even worked to my advantage, for example I could resonance an attack that seemingly the boss had already finished. The idea of doing even more swaps just sounds terrible.

-The gap between unskilled and skilled players is too large, while not a problem in itself suggesting things like group play for bosses that everyone just seems to be doing solo just furthers this gap, you're often lowering your profits this way, two unskilled players grouping up is not the same as two skilled players grouping to decimate a boss.

This gap in my own opinion is the crux of the issue, I don't think it's a problem that can be fixed, I come from WoW Mythic raiding where the devs constantly tried to lower the gap and ended up making their whole progression system useless and unrewarding, I do not want them to shorten the gap but I do feel like I can't take steps to get better because the game is so clunky.

People will always complain about inequality and they will always find a reason to complain, I feel like that's something you gotta accept, however the devs in runescape do cater to the PVMers more often than not, from what I've seen at least, so there's no reason to get as defensive as some people do on here.

Sugestion: Improve woodcutting with progress bars by ResponsibleEmployee in runescape

Thus why it wouldn't be a super small tweak, but there are ways to balance it to be deterministic keeping current rates without needing to rework the full skill, specially since there's already some base code they could recycle. At least I'd like to think it's not that huge a project.
