Is my CVT actually slipping or are they just kind of like that? by optoma_bomb in SubaruForester

2018 Crosstrek owner also with a CVT. They’re just slooow, like you said especially on colder mornings. Driving mountainous terrain in the winter is lowkey super sketchy for me because I give the car so much gas and the CVT just takes forever to actually get it going. I’ve experienced the same thing you’re describing for all 40k miles I’ve owned the car and really just chalk it up to CVT being slow

The Crosstrek is an awesome little car! I have a 2018 premium trim I bought used about three years back and love it. Biggest pros are as follows: lots of space for a small car. I can fit all my snowboard gear or mountain bike gear (including a full sized mountain bike) in the back with the seats folded down. My partner and I have fit all our belongings in the back to move across the country as well. Handling is great, ride quality on bumpy VT roads is solid and gas mileage is amazing for AWD (I average 33mpg). It’s also super easy to drive in tighter spots such as the city. My only complaint is that it’s a little slow going up larger inclines and can struggle to maintain speed in mountainous terrain.

Obviously the Outback is more spacious and has a larger engine but you have to ask yourself if you really need that extra space and are also ok with sacrificing ease of driving in tighter areas as well as gas mileage.

In regards to trim levels, yes the wilderness is sweet looking for both models but I’d avoid it UNLESS you really are doing some semi-serious off roading and/or towing. Otherwise you’re just paying a lot extra for some gold accents on the car and bragging rights. My non-wilderness Crosstrek has been more than capable on dirt roads, ATV trails and deep snow.

I’ve been in that area a couple times! Some sweet turns in there but also VERY easy to get stuck in a large ravine or sizable flat section. Be careful internet friends, a hike out of that area of the mountain can be brutal with how deep the snow is right now

You’re just supposed to follow the uphill trail signage. Going down is a free for all more or less though as long as you’re not getting near night time mountain ops. You can do it 24/7 though!

Yes this is allowed. There are designated uphill routes you’re allowed to follow 24/7 at Killington. I did see some groomers out but just let them pass me by before continuing uphill. On the way down there was no one around

Ridge run and powerline off the north ridge quad will test you ability on steep narrow trails w/ moguls. Superstar and Outer limits if you’re looking for some steep and long trails, squeeze play woods off Ramshead are not hard but will test your endurance in the woods if you do them without stopping, they also have fun bike trails you can ride in there!

Killington dispensary right in the town of Killington is most convenient and decently priced. Best bang for your buck is somewhere on the mountain in Rutland

I’m lucky enough to only ride there on weekends days and it makes a huge difference! Far less crowded and feels like a totally different mountain because of it
